1. Where is this job?

This Test Technician position is located in Portage County, Ohio.

2. Who are they and what do they make?

Manufactures power panels and static transfer switches used to help manage and maintain reliable power to buildings. Their equipment supports mission-critical customers, with Mastercard and the U.S. Navy listed among their largest clients in the job order.

3. How does the work happen and what does a day look like?

Test Technicians inspect and test electronic power equipment, transformers, and circuit breakers. They troubleshoot AC and DC power and control circuits, with experience around 480V to 660V+ preferred, and may perform occasional repairs to control, power, and fiber-optic assemblies.

A typical day includes working from schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings; using voltmeters and current meters; checking electrical systems and components; troubleshooting faults; and confirming that equipment performs correctly before it moves forward.

Technicians may crimp and route wiring, program electronic devices, interface with computers and test-related programs, and complete test reports and other documentation. Strong attention to detail is important because the work involves high-voltage equipment and precise testing requirements.

The position requires an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or at least two years of experience in the power industry. Candidates should be proficient with electrical meters, hand tools, electrical PPE, Lockout/Tagout, and standard electrical safety procedures. Excel, Word, and basic file manipulation are also required.

Preferred experience includes electrical parts assembly and/or wiring, electrical troubleshooting, measurement tools, strong documentation and communication skills, knowledge of small tools, some familiarity with NEC code, and programming knowledge.

4. What's the schedule?

1st Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM.

2nd Shift: Monday-Thursday, 2:00 PM-12:30 AM.

2nd-shift hires train on 1st shift for a few weeks.

Candidates receive a 30-minute lunch break.

5. What's it like there?

All locations are busy manufacturing environments. The Test Technician area can be moderately loud and moderately warm because load testing generates heat. The company has experienced strong growth and, when the job order was written, had a significant backlog of customer orders.

6. What's the tough part of the job?

The toughest part is the technical and safety responsibility. Technicians work around electrical voltages up to and over 600V, spend most of the shift standing, need good manual dexterity and eyesight, and must stay precise while troubleshooting and documenting test results. The job can also involve moderately warm conditions caused by load testing.
