TEMPORARY POSITION
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine and complex clerical, technical, accounting, and legal support assignments in support of the Solid Waste Director. This position assists in collecting tipping fees and weights from commercial and industrial customers, adhering to applicable South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control regulations and statutes. This role provides customer service to both internal and external clients, and assists with daily operations of the department such as computer operation of truck scales and the collection and accounting of tipping fees. Responsible for operating inbound and outbound computerized truck scales to track waste being disposed or recycled. Duties include maintaining daily logs, forms, and reports, verifying scale transactions for accuracy, and providing front line customer service to residents and commercial customers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and six (6) months of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a high risk indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, vibration, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, or moving mechanical parts. In the performance of their duties, employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, boots, gloves, or eye shields.
