Job Overview:

Summary of Position:

Duties include installation, calibration, testing, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection and replacement of instrumentation equipment and control systems, as well as SCADA and comms development.  Possesses a high level of skills and is qualified to direct others, lead projects, perform complex troubleshooting and repair tasks.  Job may require overseeing contractors as well as train less skilled employees under his/her supervision.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (AB, ABB, FB, ROC, IDEC & ScadaPak).
  • Excellent understanding of IEC-63111-3 programming languages (ladder logic, function block).
  • Can perform tasks like troubleshooting, implementing advanced logic, tune PID loops.
  • Excellent understanding of local HMIs (Redlion, Beijer, IDEC, Phoenix) Understanding programming process/ troubleshooting.
  • Can oversee all commissioning activities such as contractor management, full facility device function testing, documentation management and PSSR startup procedures.
  • Must be able to teach others to better the team either in person or remotely.
  • Evaluate Civitas automation standards and make suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and correct control system wiring for transmitters, switch devices, and PLC output commands to an array of control devices which may include valve actuators, positioners, electric motors, etc.
  • Inspects, calibrates, and repairs end devices such as transmitters, switches, fire eyes, hazardous gas detection, level detection, burner management systems, loop tuning, etc. 
  • Become familiar with the SCADA system (ZD SCADA) and learn to validate incoming device data
  • Knows how to read and implement piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), control panel and junction box diagrams, process flow diagrams.
  • Maintain flow computers and remote terminal units (RTU) I/O wiring and configuration.
  • Excellent understanding of Ethernet I/P and Serial Radio installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Must have solid knowledge of electrical theory and controls for low voltage systems. Be able to troubleshoot problems related to control systems rated at 120 VAC and less.
  • Must have a good understanding of upstream oil and gas industrial process.
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of variable frequency drives (Yaskawa, Toshiba, Schneider, ABB)
  • Oversees contractors as needed, providing specialty services (Quality Assurance, Quality Control).
  • Knows and follows NEC code and API code regulations regarding area classification and requirements for automation/electrical components located within classified areas. 
  • Follow safe operating practices and ensure compliance with CIVI Environment, Safety & Regulatory requirements.
  • Assure all work performed adheres to CIVI standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Knowledge of basic oil and gas processing equipment.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., e-mail, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to walk along open range/country, dirt roads, inclines/declines, etc. to reach equipment and climb in/out of ditches.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet stringent deadlines with a positive and helpful “can-do” attitude.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work behavior and habits
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a diverse group.
  • Work well with all field team members along with all office support needs.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Education & Experience:

  • Trade school graduate or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years Oil and Gas Industry experience required.
  • Uses strong communication skills, interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships.

Travel & Additional Requirements:

  • Regular travel to field locations is required for both the Midland and Delaware Basins.
  • Work Location: Work is performed at a CIVI location Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays as business needs allow and with manager approval.
  • Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
