Job Overview:

Toyota Racing Development (TRD) is seeking a highly motivated Technician, Inspection to join our team. We are dedicated to advancing automotive engineering and maximizing racetrack performance, and this role is integral to our pursuit of becoming the most respected motorsports engineering organization.

This is a 12-month contract position (with potential for extension) based on-site at TRD's Costa Mesa, CA facility. This is a first shift role with hours of 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with overtime as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional and visual inspections of machined components, assemblies, and finished products from both in-house manufacturing and external suppliers to ensure conformance with design specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards.

• Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to perform complex, high-precision measurements and first-article inspections (FAI) using Calypso software.

• Conduct manual inspections using a variety of precision measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators.

• Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, with a strong understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME/ANSI standards.

• Document and report inspection results by creating detailed inspection reports and nonconformance reports (NCRs), and provide data for quality review and statistical analysis.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will have:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Quality Control environment, working with machined components across all phases of inspection including receiving, first article, and final inspection.

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience operating CMM equipment, with proven experience using manual inspection techniques and tools.

• Familiarity with basic precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn their use.

• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for data entry and documentation.

• Aptitude for learning CMM software and other required quality data systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in small-volume, high-quality automotive machined components production.

• Experience with automotive or aerospace components.

• Experience with receiving inspection requirements, including first article inspection.

• Experience with surface finish measurement.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting at an inspection station for approximately 6 hours per day.

• Walking occasionally or intermittently, up to 1 hour per day.

• Standing occasionally or intermittently (up to 6 hours possible during spring testing).

• Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs occasionally or intermittently.

• Pushing and pulling between 25–50 lbs occasionally or intermittently (for part transfer on a cart).

This is an on-site role based at TRD's Costa Mesa, CA facility.
