Job Summary

Under general supervision with limited review, the Test Technician contributes to the maintenance, assembly, repair, and occasional enhancement of general laboratory, experimental, or commercial equipment. The Test Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting test equipment to verify the performance and quality of electronic and/or electromechanical products. This role executes test procedures, records data, identifies failures, and supports engineering and production teams in resolving test issues. The Test Technician must follow test documentation, safety procedures, and quality standards to ensure reliable, repeatable test results. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with precision tools and equipment.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Perform functional, environmental, and/or performance tests on units, subassemblies, and components.
• Set up test fixtures, instrumentation, and equipment according to test procedures and work instructions.
• Load test software, apply power, and configure test parameters as specified.
• Identify test failures and assist in isolating root causes at the board, module, or system level.
• Use test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies.
• Record test results, measurements, and observations accurately in logs, travelers, or electronic systems.
• Follow revision-controlled test procedures and notify supervision of documentation discrepancies.
• Communicate test issues, trends, and recurring failures to leads, engineers, and quality personnel.
• Perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude, including working with bearings, gears, lead screws, and applying grease properly.
• Use calibrated measuring tools such as calipers, dial indicators, and torque tools to ensure proper installation and adjustment of hardware.

Additional Functions

• Perform housekeeping and cleanup duties as required.
• Maintain Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) certification and adhere to its usage requirements.
• Carry out other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

• Typically requires an associate’s degree or equivalent with two or more years of relevant experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education. 
• Be proficient in using common hand tools and operating laboratory equipment.
• Have the capability to perform complex assignments with little or no direction.
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, including experience working with bearings, gears, lead screws, and knowledge of proper grease application techniques.
• Understand the correct methods for torquing hardware and using calibrated measuring tools such as calipers and dial indicators.
• Be capable of lifting 20-30 lbs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification to use a Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) system required. 
• Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work on systems with unusual conditions, such as high pressure, high voltage, high energy, cryogens, or radioactive materials.
• Possess knowledge of computer operations and applications relevant to the field.
