TECHNICIAN II – MET LAB

THE TECHNICIAN II – MET LAB WILL . . .

  • Prepares samples for analysis/examination and carries out a range of moderately complex metallurgical services.
  • Understands all equipment in the area but operates only a limited amount of general equipment with moderate supervision.
  • Perform various mechanical tests on general equipment, such as hardness testing, tension, tensile, resistivity etc. Perform various metallographic tests using etchants, polishing equipment, and general metallographic equipment.
  • Collect and record test data obtained during the evaluation. Record test piece results in the mainframe with moderate supervision.
  • This position can be located in any of the following areas: Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TECHNICIAN II – MET LAB

  • Highschool diploma required
  • 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Expands knowledge and skills; applies knowledge and skills to complete a variety of day-to-day activities within own area or department.
  • Solves a range of problems by using standard procedures and/or processes.
  • Responds to customer needs; seeks guidance on issues outside own area.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices. Working knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.
  • Works with others within own area or department to achieve team goals through expanded knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to perform work of a diversified and more complex nature.
  • Ability to operate general metallurgical/laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
