JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary 
 This position is responsible for management of solids recovery, process efficiency and yield assessment across all products, as well as wastewater treatment plant operation. The position will also provide front line problem solving on product performance and quality issues.

Essential Functions

• Develop and implement in-process targets for solids recovery and yield across all process and product areas and provide support to production to meet these targets.
• Develop and implement processes for monitoring product loss that minimize solids lost during the manufacturing process.  
• Provide insight and direction on technology and processing conditions that will maximize yield and processing efficiency.
• Develop and implement a water use/recovery plan that minimizes the quantity of city water needed for plant operation.
• Develop and implement spill containment strategies that minimize the impact of spills on the wastewater treatment plant operation as well as minimize the quantity of waste hauled to external lagoons.
• Provide leadership and necessary resources to support the operation of the wastewater treatment plant to ensure achievement of effluent requirements while minimizing the impact of the wastewater treatment plant on the community. 
• Provide expertise in cheese grading and hands-on support and guidance on product technical and functionality attributes for all cheese types including aged cheddar.
• Serve as a resource to the quality and production departments on the operation and cleaning of large-scale cheese manufacturing equipment including enclosed finishing vats.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisor responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in an office, lab and plant environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Exposed to extreme temperature variations. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands
The physical demands for this position are mainly able to do sedentary work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently will need to sit, stand, walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Typical hours of work are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
The position requires up to 15% travel.

Required Education, Experience & Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in dairy science, food technology, chemistry, engineering, or related field of study and five to ten years of dairy processing experience. A minimum of five years of experience supervising a significant segment of a dairy processing facility. Proficiency in cheese grading and basic computer skills.

Preferred Education, Experience & Certifications

Master’s degree in related field and/or 10 years of applicable experience in food processing facility. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
