POSITION OVERVIEW:

The growth at Pratt Miller has resulted in opportunities for a project leader focused on robotics and hydrogen programs. Depending on the blend of talent, skills and experience, the ideal candidate will qualify for a Project Lead position now, with the potential to grow into a Chief Engineer position, which is the highest level of technical leadership for programs at Pratt Miller. The project leader is responsible to support customer engagements, build a technical plan and form a project team from the matrix organization. They lead many aspects of project execution to ensure that the customer is satisfied, the employees are satisfied, and the projects are profitable. The leader will be responsible for developing core competencies and capabilities that deliver exceptional value to our customers and create a competitive advantage.

The fundamental candidate characteristics are as follows:

  • A blend of technical expertise, problem solving and program management skills capable of leading a highly skilled team to solve unique and challenging vehicle applications
  • Proficient at adapting to an ever-changing tool chain and able to lead the team to use the right tool(s) at the right time; to make decisions with data that optimize the end performance
  • Enthusiastic and motivated person that will over-deliver to the customer while building, guiding, and motivating a small team of people
  • Able to operate in an often ambiguous and time compressed environment, coupled with complex and unique engineering challenges

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate planning, organization, control, integration and completion of projects
  • Plan and formulate engineering programs, review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications
  • Coordinate activities on technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering issues
  • Lead the exploration of the design space, set the technical objectives and requirements, establish the decision-making process using trade studies, resolve any conflicts, and guide the team
  • Lead communication internally as the voice of the customer, and externally as single point of contact
  • Coordinate personnel on project assignments through the resource forecasting process and coordination with matrixed department managers
  • Identify risks to customer satisfaction and project deliverables, while developing action plans to mitigate
  • Support Program Managers in planning project financials, tracking costs, and ensuring profitability
  • Assist the Business Development team in market research and analysis of needs and competitors, while supporting identification of opportunities
  • Assist the Technical Director in executing the strategy and capability expansion by recruiting technical staff, identifying capital resource needs, and managing technical deliverables

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • A systems integration approach to vehicle development, including knowledge in a variety of automotive and defense sub-systems, will be required to effectively succeed in this role
  • Experience in structural analysis, multibody simulation engineering, vehicle dynamics, and control system development.
  • This position requires exceptional communication of technical and programmatic data. Oral and writing skills for reports and specifications using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and open design environments with competing requirements
  • A strong personal desire to always be the best, work with the best, and support the team

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace or similar engineering education
  • 10-15+ years of engineering experience in defense, automotive, or aerospace industry

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel may be required, with frequency being dependent on the program
  • Must remain flexible with schedule and adjust to work early, late, and/or weekends as deadlines require

Pay Range:

$104,100.00 - $173,900.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
