JOB SUMMARY

 

Provide technical assistance and key guidance in the development and design improvements of various power and electrical switch products.  The technical product engineer will need an intermediate to advanced level experience and technical knowledge combined with interpersonal skills that will provide for effective collaboration with internal/external stakeholders across a wide variety personnel and functions (i.e. engineering, sales, marketing, customer service, operations etc).   

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete design reviews and improvements of On Load Tap Changers (LTCs) and other related switch components which may include switchgears, regulators, breakers and/or tap changers
  • Test and implement design improvements to products in development
  • Design and implement tooling and fixtures
  • Training of internal and external customers
  • Supervise and support service and warranty needs
  • Support manufacturing of OLTC and switches
  • Review work centers for process improvements
  • Review procedures to ensure accuracy

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the assembly and functioning of switchgears, regulators, breakers and/or tap changers
  • Communication and training facilitation for customers and peers
  • Knowledge of electrical utilities and/or manufacturing power sector customer base
  • Familiar with substations and their working environment – safety and procedures (OSHA)
  • Project and time management skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Manufacturing engineering and/or industry experience highly preferred; specifically in the power sector
  • 5 -10 years of knowledge and experience working in mechanical or electrical engineering capacity 
  • Operating knowledge, theory of operations and switching sequences.
  • Fabrication and assembly expertise of tooling, fixtures, and switches
  • Computer proficiency

 

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Subject Matter Expert in similar power manufacturing operations and related product knowledge
  • Knowledge of OLTC designs (resistance and reactance).
  • Technical education post high school
  • Fabrication skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Capable of completing presentations and training others.

Key Working Relationships

Work with design engineers, operational staff, assemblers, contractors and customers

 

Physical Demands

General office work 50%

Testing, plant support, site visits (outdoors) requiring physical dexterity.
