Job Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Innovation Intern will support the Office of the CTO by researching and evaluating emerging technologies that can enhance data center operations and Vertiv’s current and future product offerings. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about innovation and the future of critical digital infrastructure. The intern will also contribute to hands-on AI development and experimentation using local AI computing systems while collaborating with engineering, product, IT, university, and innovation teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct research on emerging data center technologies, including AC power, air and liquid cooling, energy storage, IoT, advanced materials, AI infrastructure, and digital twins.

• Analyze industry reports, academic publications, patents, and market trends to identify innovations applicable to Vertiv’s product lines.

• Evaluate technologies from startups, universities, established vendors, and advanced technology providers.

• Assess the potential impact of emerging technologies on current and future product offerings.

• Prepare technical summaries, reports, presentations, innovation briefs, and recommendations highlighting integration or development opportunities.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess technical feasibility and application potential.

• Use local AI computing systems to prototype, test, and document AI and machine-learning workflows.

• Support local large language model deployment, inference, evaluation, prompt testing, semantic search, and lightweight fine-tuning experiments.

• Assist with Python-based data pipelines, API and RSS integrations, model evaluation, dashboards, and automation workflows.

• Help maintain reliable AI computing workloads, including logging, scheduled jobs, backups, startup and recovery processes, and technical documentation.

• Follow Vertiv IT, laboratory, access-control, cybersecurity, and responsible-AI requirements when working with AI systems and company information.

• Support university partnerships, startup engagement, innovation dashboards, newsletters, and knowledge-management activities.

• Present research findings, demonstrations, and recommendations to the Office of the CTO and engineering leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality work.

• Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

• Ability to learn in a fast-paced innovation environment and manage multiple assignments.

• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills across engineering, product, IT, and external partner teams.

• Experience with Python and familiarity with Linux or Ubuntu environments is preferred.

• Familiarity with machine learning, generative AI, large language models, embeddings, semantic search, or model evaluation is preferred.

• Exposure to Git or GitLab, REST APIs, databases, containers, automation, or open-source AI tools is a plus.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; Power BI or Streamlit experience is a plus.

• Ability to troubleshoot software and system issues and maintain clear technical documentation.

• Commitment to safe, secure, ethical, and responsible use of AI systems and company information.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

• No special physical requirements.

• Work may take place in an office or controlled lab environment using desktop AI-computing equipment.
