Job Summary:
The Systems Test Technical Engineer is a highly skilled and versatile Test Setup Engineer with expertise in hardware, software, and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, integrating, and validating tests at the system, sub-assembly, and component levels. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering, software interfaces, and mechanical structures to ensure comprehensive testing of high-voltage battery systems used in various applications.
Responsibilities:
- Design and construct test setups for high-voltage battery systems at the system, sub-assembly, and component levels to evaluate product performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, and mechanical) to ensure the testing environment meets all technical and safety requirements.
- Design and oversee critical interfaces within systems to facilitate component reuse and adherence to standard methodologies.
- Configure hardware such as sensors, data acquisition systems, and communication interfaces for testing purposes.
- Develop and integrate software tools/scripts to automate and control test environments (e.g., using LabVIEW, Python, or MATLAB).
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues during test execution.
- Install and configure mechanical test fixtures and components to support battery system testing.
- Ensure proper thermal management, structural integrity, and alignment of mechanical setups during testing.
- Execute test plans for the development of battery pack systems to ensure compliance with system requirements.
- Perform electrical, thermal, and mechanical testing of high-voltage battery systems following safety guidelines.
- Set up and manage battery testing equipment such as chargers, electronic loads, and thermal chambers.
- Monitor and analyze the performance of batteries under different operating conditions.
- Gather, process, analyze, and communicate test data internally.
- Prepare and present test reports, including tables/charts, to the internal team.
- Utilize hands-on experience in troubleshooting and triaging complex electrical schematics, PCBs, and embedded system designs.
- Collaborate with specialists to conduct root cause analyses and provide support.
- Lead data analysis endeavors and interpretations pertaining to battery performance.
- Offer technical expertise in investigating system issues and support root cause analysis, mitigation, and corrective action planning.
- Develop detailed test plans and procedures based on system and component-level requirements.
- Ensure thorough documentation of the test setups, configurations, and results.
- Present test results and collaborate with design and validation teams to refine product performance.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols related to high-voltage testing.
- Maintain proper safety procedures when working with high-voltage equipment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling techniques.
- Adhere to federal and state regulations.
- Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years engineering experience in systems testing, system verification, or Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing of battery and low or high-voltage products.
- Minimum of three (3) years engineering experience in lithium-ion battery systems testing on large-scale energy storage and battery pack programs preferred.
- Proficiency in hardware, software, and mechanical test setup design.
- Knowledge of high-voltage battery systems, thermal management, and mechanical fixtures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of safety protocols for working with high-voltage equipment.
- Experience analyzing, debugging, and reworking electrical circuits, components, and subsystems using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, programmable loads, thermal probes, and other equipment.
- Experience developing and executing automated tests using tools such as LabView, MATLAB.
- Experienced communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience with Vector Tools.
- General lab or shop experience including use of tools like multimeter, power tools, and similar.
- Product experience with Li-Ion batteries, battery pack design, power systems, alternative energy systems, electronic control units (ECUs), battery management systems (BMS), MEMS, and sensors.
- Educated on common lithium-ion cell, module, and battery pack test certifications.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed (less than 10% travel on average).
- Proficiency in test automation and data analysis software (LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python).
- Hands-on experience with mechanical design and assembly tools.
