Job Overview:

Systems Engineer - Video Borescope Systems

Do you enjoy leading system architecture and technical strategy for complex inspection technologies that deliver exceptional image quality, reliability, and customer value?

Would you like to drive cross-functional engineering innovation by integrating optical, electrical, mechanical, and software technologies into next-generation industrial inspection solutions?

Join our team!

Baker Hughes is the leading energy technology company, who delivers across the energy value chain through our market-leading business segments. Built on a century of experience and conducting business in over 120 countries. Our innovative technologies and services are taking energy forward! Making it safer, cleaner and more efficient for people and the planet.

Partner with the best

The Systems Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture, integration, and validation of advanced video borescope inspection systems. This role provides system-level leadership across optical, electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing disciplines to ensure successful development of high-performance industrial inspection products.

The position is responsible for defining system architecture, guiding technical strategy, identifying and mitigating technical risks, and driving cross-functional execution throughout the product lifecycle. The Systems Engineer plays a key role in balancing product performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and customer value while helping shape future technology direction and platform evolution.

This role primarily focuses on system architecture, technical leadership, and cross-functional coordination across engineering disciplines. While the position is expected to maintain strong technical engagement and periodically participate in integration activities, design reviews, troubleshooting efforts, and technical investigations, the primary responsibility is guiding and governing the technical direction of the product rather than executing day-to-day engineering tasks.

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Owning system architecture and overall technical integrity of complex video borescope inspection platforms.
  • Defining and managing system and subsystem requirements, ensuring traceability from customer needs through verification and validation.
  • Leading system-level architecture development across optical, electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing domains.
  • Driving cross-functional technical decision making and resolving complex multidisciplinary engineering challenges.
  • Leading system integration and troubleshooting activities across hardware and software components, including imaging pipelines, illumination performance, mechanical articulation systems, user interfaces, and embedded electronics.
  • Establishing verification and validation strategies and ensuring successful execution of system qualification activities.
  • Leading technical trade studies balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, schedule, and customer value.
  • Driving technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and risk reduction activities throughout product development.
  • Influencing technology roadmaps and platform strategies across current and future generations of inspection products.
  • Analyzing and communicating system performance data to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Providing technical leadership, architectural direction, and mentoring to engineering teams while ensuring effective execution across disciplines.
  • Supporting New Product Introduction activities from concept development through commercial release.
  • Leading DFMEA activities and ensuring robust system-level design decisions.

Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Have 12+ years of experience in systems engineering, product development, product architecture, or complex system integration.
  • Have demonstrated experience developing and governing system architectures for multidisciplinary products.
  • Have a strong understanding of requirements development, system integration, verification, and validation methodologies.
  • Have experience leading cross-functional technical teams through complex engineering challenges.
  • Have proven ability to assess technical risk and drive effective mitigation strategies.
  • Have excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
  • Have the ability to influence technical direction across organizations without direct authority.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have experience with imaging systems, optical systems, image sensors, lighting systems, or image-processing technologies.
  • Have experience with industrial inspection, NDT, aerospace, energy, or other mission-critical applications.
  • Have familiarity with embedded systems, software-intensive products, and hardware/software integration.
  • Have experience with requirements management, systems engineering tools, and model-based engineering approaches.
  • Have deep understanding of image quality metrics, resolution, noise, illumination performance, and system-level performance optimization.
  • Have experience establishing systems engineering processes and best practices within product development organizations.
  • Have demonstrated success mentoring engineers and developing technical talent.
