Job Overview
We are seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of production systems within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on new program launches, process development, equipment integration, and continuous improvement across assembly operations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can balance technical system design with on-the-floor leadership during launches, troubleshooting, and production support activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement manufacturing systems for new product introductions, including process flow, equipment selection, and labor modeling
- Develop standardized work instructions, assembly processes, and error-proofing methods
- Create and maintain efficient plant layouts aligned with Lean Manufacturing principles
- Lead manufacturing readiness and launch activities for new programs
- Coordinate installation, relocation, and validation of production equipment
- Serve as project lead for capital equipment and facility improvement initiatives
- Partner with suppliers and vendors to define scope of work, review specifications, and validate equipment prior to shipment
- Troubleshoot production issues using structured problem-solving tools (8D, root cause analysis, etc.)
- Drive continuous improvement in throughput, quality, and labor efficiency
- Manage Engineering Change processes and cross-functional implementation
- Apply AIAG Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA) throughout programs
- Support maintenance planning and assist with equipment reliability initiatives
- Lead or coordinate maintenance-related activities when required
- Travel to customer and supplier locations for launches, audits, and validations
- Mentor junior engineers and support technical development of team members
- Ensure safety is embedded into all system design and production processes
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Experience in manufacturing or assembly engineering environment
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems, equipment, and production processes
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and standard engineering tools
- Familiarity with AIAG Core Tools
- PLC system profieciency (ability to program and troubleshoot)
- Experience managing vendors, suppliers, or external contractors
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred
- 3–5 years of manufacturing engineering experience
- Automotive or high-volume assembly experience
- Exposure to robotics, automation, or controls systems
- Maintenance leadership or planning experience
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma background
- Capital project or equipment installation experience
Compensation
- $85,000 to $100,000+/year - based on experience
Candidates with significant manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
