Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Supply Chain Specialist to join their manufacturing team in Taylorsville, NC. This is a direct hire opportunity with a stable and growing manufacturer.
The Supply Chain Specialist plays a key role in ensuring materials are available to support production while maintaining optimal inventory levels. This position is responsible for purchasing raw materials, managing inventory accuracy, supporting production scheduling, and collaborating across multiple departments to ensure customer demand is met while minimizing production disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Procurement
- Purchase raw materials, packaging, and production supplies based on customer demand and inventory requirements.
- Create and maintain purchase orders within the ERP system.
- Monitor supplier performance, confirmations, deliveries, and material availability.
- Expedite critical materials and resolve supplier shortages, delivery delays, pricing discrepancies, and invoice issues.
- Maintain supplier lead times, forecasts, and purchasing parameters.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through effective purchasing practices.
- Support supply chain operations across multiple manufacturing locations.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure material availability while minimizing excess inventory.
- Analyze inventory trends and recommend improvements to reduce obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
- Perform weekly cycle counts and assist with physical inventories.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and maintain accurate ERP inventory records.
- Ensure inventory transactions and master data remain accurate.
Planning & Supply Chain Coordination
- Review customer demand, forecasts, and sales orders to support purchasing and planning decisions.
- Collaborate with Customer Service, Operations, Production, and Warehouse teams to ensure material readiness.
- Support production scheduling based on customer demand and material availability.
- Assist with schedule adjustments due to changing customer requirements, machine downtime, or material shortages.
- Communicate daily demand and material changes with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain reports related to inventory, supplier performance, and schedule adherence.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve purchasing, inventory, and supply chain processes.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, production planning, or manufacturing operations.
- Manufacturing experience required.
- Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and supplier relationship management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ERP systems such as BAAN, Infor LN, SAP, Oracle, or similar.
- Knowledge of inventory management, demand planning, and purchasing best practices.
- Experience supporting production scheduling based on customer demand.
