The Supply Chain Commodity Lead is responsible for the strategic sourcing, demand planning, and lifecycle management of key commodities supporting custom curtainwall manufacturing and self-performed installation. This individual contributor role owns supplier relationships, pricing negotiations, inventory optimization, and supply continuity for aluminum extrusions, sheet metals, and specialty coated materials. The role partners closely with engineering, fabrication, estimating, and project teams to ensure cost-effective, reliable material supply aligned with project schedules and manufacturing capacity.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Commodity Strategy & Sourcing:
- Lead supplier selection, qualification, and onboarding process.
- Monitor raw material pricing and capacity constraints impacting pricing and availability.
- Main commodities of responsibility: Aluminum extrusion, aluminum sheet, galvanized sheet, third-party painted and specialty coated products.
- Develop and maintain commodity strategies aligned with market conditions, project demand and fabrication capacity.
- Supplier Management & Negotiations:
- Own commercial relationship with suppliers.
- Foster regular update calls & disseminate to greater Supply Chain & Operations team.
- Lead pricing negotiations, lead time agreements and capacity commitments.
- Resolve supplier performance issues related to quality, delivery or cost.
- Collaborate with legal & supply chain leadership to establish and manage supply agreements, pricing schedules and pricing escalation.
- Demand Planning & Inventory Management:
- Forecast material demand based on project schedules, fabrication requirements, mill minimums and lead time constraints.
- Manage surplus, excess and rejected inventory.
- Track supplier credits and replacement material related to vendor caused scrap.
- Maintain accurate vendor pricing and commodity data within the ERP system.
- Cross Functional Collaboration:
- Support estimating through pricing analysis, leveling sheets and supplier comparisons.
- Work closely with our internal departments (mainly machine & sheet metal shop) to plan, track and deliver material as required by production schedule.
- Provide finance with budget updates, cost incurred, and cost-to-complete analysis.
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced Excel required — candidates must be proficient with:
- Nested formulas (INDEX/MATCH, XLOOKUP, IF, SUMIFS, etc.)
- PivotTables and Pivot Charts
- Data validation and conditional formatting
- Strategic sourcing and negotiations
- Demand planning and inventory optimization
- Supplier relationship management
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- High accountability with individual ownership mindset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel as required.
- Ability to sit, work, collaborate on a computer as needed for project work.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in supply chain, procurement, or commodity management
- Experience in curtainwall, glazing, façade, or architectural metal industries
- Knowledge of aluminum extrusion manufacturing processes. (Including LME, Midwest premium, etc...)
- Proven success negotiating pricing and supply agreements
- Strong analytical and forecasting skills
- Experience working in a project-based or engineered-to-order environment
- ERP/MRP system experience (As well as strong Excel skills)
