The Opportunity
This position works out of our Scarborough, ME location in the Infectious Disease, Diagnostics Division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
The Supplier Quality Engineer will help drive supplier quality performance, continuous improvement, and risk mitigation across the supply base. Acts as a key technical contributor partnering across functions to ensure supplier capabilities meet product, regulatory, and business requirements. Leads supplier quality activities and influences outcomes without direct authority.
What You’ll Work On
Support onboarding of suppliers, including validation and readiness activities
Contribute to supplier improvement plans to address performance gaps
Collaborate with suppliers to improve process capability and product quality
Track supplier quality metrics (PPM, defect rates, yield, escapes) and perform trend analysis
Monitor supplier performance and identify risks and systemic issues
Support supplier reviews and follow-up on improvement actions
Investigate supplier-related defects, incoming issues, and field failures
Own supplier nonconformance management, including containment, resolution, and closure of supplier-related issues
Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Drive and own supplier corrective actions, ensuring timely and effective implementation and verification of effectiveness
Communicate supplier quality issues and track resolution progress
Support development and maintenance of inspection procedures and acceptance criteria
Assist in optimizing incoming inspection strategies based on risk
Provide guidance to inspection teams as needed
Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Quality teams
Provide input to supplier-related quality decisions
Participate in cross-functional problem-solving efforts
Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
Own suppliers change management processes, including review, risk assessment, approval, and implementation of supplier-initiated changes
Required Qualifications
Bachelors in Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2-4 years Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in regulated industry (e.g., medical device, pharmaceutical, automotive, aerospace) with knowledge of applicable standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, AS9100)
Demonstrated experience leading supplier audits, including process, system, and compliance audits.
Experience managing supplier corrective actions and verifying effectiveness of CAPAs.

The base pay for this position is
$61,300.00 – $122,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
