Supplier Quality Engineer Summary
Vertiv is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to lead supplier quality execution across complex engineered manufacturing programs. This is a highly field-based role (70%+ travel) focused on supplier audits, production readiness, supplier industrialization readiness, documentation control, and issue resolution across global manufacturing and integration suppliers.
The SQE ensures supplier compliance to engineering requirements from design through production while driving manufacturing readiness, quality performance, and disciplined execution across commodity-based and line-of-business supplier portfolios. The role requires strong capability in supplier documentation control, configuration management, and structured inventory/traceability practices to ensure alignment across engineering, procurement, and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead supplier quality execution across all program phases (design, pre-production, production), ensuring supplier industrialization readiness across the supply base.
- Drive supplier readiness and supplier industrialization readiness, ensuring compliance to drawings, specifications, workmanship standards, and customer requirements, while executing a robust APQP/PPAP process for NPDI and production launch.
- Support and execute FAI, FAT, PPAP, and production approval activities for new and changed products.
- Conduct supplier audits (QMS and process-based) and assess manufacturing capability, quality systems, and production readiness.
- Manage supplier documentation, configuration records, and commodity-based inventory/traceability requirements to ensure alignment across engineering and manufacturing.
- Act as cross-functional integrator across Supplier Quality, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to align on supplier readiness, documentation control, and industrialization requirements.
- Coordinate supplier quality activities across NPI, production launch, and sustaining phases to ensure consistent execution across commodity-based supplier networks.
- Integrate supplier quality data, audit findings, and nonconformance trends into structured reporting to enable visibility, escalation, and corrective action.
- Lead resolution of supplier nonconformances using structured problem-solving methods (8D, RCCA, SCAR).
- Partner with Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and external integrators to resolve supplier quality and manufacturing issues.
- Support supplier selection, qualification, and performance ranking with Procurement and commodity/LOB owners.
- Track and report supplier performance, risks, and corrective actions to leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement in supplier quality, delivery, cost, and manufacturing performance.
- Support ISO 9001 quality system compliance across the supplier base.
- Conduct frequent on-site supplier visits for audits, issue resolution, and production readiness.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or related role.
- Experience with supplier audits, PPAP, FAI, FAT, and production readiness activities.
- Strong experience in supplier documentation control, configuration management, and traceability.
- Experience supporting supplier industrialization readiness, NPI, and production scale-up in engineered manufacturing environments.
- Strong root cause and corrective action experience (8D, RCCA, SCAR).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Experience working directly with suppliers in industrial/manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication skills with ability to deliver concise executive-level updates.
- Willingness to travel 70%+ domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in engineered-to-order or project-based manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and supplier audit methodologies.
- Experience with global suppliers and third-party integrators.
- Background in supplier development, manufacturing engineering, or commodity-based supply chains.
- Experience with NPDI programs.
- ASQ certification (CQE or related) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
Physical & Work Environment
- Extensive domestic and international travel to supplier and manufacturing sites.
- Manufacturing environments requiring PPE (safety shoes, eyewear, hearing protection, gloves).
- Active field-based role requiring frequent on-site supplier engagement.
