Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to join our Quality team. This role will be responsible for ensuring that suppliers consistently deliver high-quality materials, components, and services that meet our technical and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a strong manufacturing background, with proven experience in machining, welding, and fabrication processes, as well as a basic working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or ASME Section VIII.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, and monitor suppliers to ensure they meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Plan, perform, and document supplier audits, with a focus on machining, welding, fabrication, and special processes.
  • Review and approve supplier quality documentation, including material certifications, welding procedures, and inspection reports.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve nonconformances, implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and drive continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing teams to establish quality requirements for externally supplied parts and services.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented by suppliers.
  • Support the qualification of new suppliers and materials, including first article inspections and capability studies.
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and generate reports for management review.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to suppliers on machining tolerances, welding codes, and pressure vessel fabrication requirements.

Travel

  • This position requires occasional travel—approximately 35% of the time—to visit supplier sites for auditing purposes; travel may involve short-distance trips by vehicle or air travel to remote locations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing or quality engineering, preferably in pressure vessels, or rotating equipment industries.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of machining, welding, and fabrication processes.
  • Experience with supplier quality management, audits, and performance evaluation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with practical application of root cause analysis and corrective action tools (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, 8D).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence suppliers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels) requirements.
  • Experience in non-destructive testing (NDT), machining, fabrication and related quality processes.
  • Certified Auditor (ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
