Supplier Quality Engineer

Location: Greenville, Michigan

Reports to: Quality Manager

Middleby Refrigeration is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team in Greenville, MI. This essential role supports supplier quality management initiatives to ensure materials and components meet engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and our high standards of product excellence.

The Supplier Quality Engineer plays a key role in strengthening supplier partnerships, driving continuous improvement, resolving non-conformances, and supporting new product development efforts. This position helps protect product integrity, improve supplier performance, and ensure consistent quality across our supply chain.

Expected Hours of Work:

This position is full-time. The general scheduled workdays are Monday through Friday, with overtime as required. This role requires approximately 25% travel to supplier locations and other business sites as needed.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Supplier Quality Engineer to join our quality assurance team. This role will focus on ensuring the quality of materials and components supplied to our refrigeration manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with suppliers, procurement teams, and internal stakeholders to drive supplier performance, maintain quality standards, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Supplier Quality Management

  • Perform supplier audits (process, system, and layered audits)
  • Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and performance metrics
  • Drive supplier corrective actions using structured problem-solving methods
  • Validate containment and permanent corrective actions

Root Cause & Process Solving

  • Lead 8D / A3 / DMAIC investigations for supplier defects
  • Support production in troubleshooting component-related failures
  • Conduct failure analysis and coordinate lab testing when required
  • Verify corrective action effectiveness through data validation

New Product & Process Solving

  • Approve first article inspections and PPAP submissions
  • Support engineering changes and supplier change management
  • Ensure robust process capability prior to production release

Incoming & Production Support

  • Improve incoming inspection strategies and sampling plans
  • Reduce line disruptions caused by supplier issues
  • Work with operations to implement mistake-proofing solutions
  • Support warranty and field failure analysis

Travel Expectation

  • Regular travel to domestic and occasional international suppliers
  • Typically, 1–2 weeks per month on-site at suppliers
  • Travel increases during new product launches or major quality events
Requirements

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or Quality Engineering
  • Experience conducting supplier audits
  • Strong root-cause analysis skills
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with measurement tools and inspection methods
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in refrigeration systems, electromechanical assemblies, or appliances
  • Knowledge of sealed systems, tubing assemblies, or electrical harness components
  • Familiarity with:
  • PPAP / APQP
  • FMEA & Control Plans
  • SPC & capability analysis
  • GD&T interpretation
  • Experience of working directly with production lines and technicians

Working Conditions:

  • Office based and production based
  • 25% travel
  • 8-hour shifts
  • Monday- Friday
