POSITION SUMMARY
The Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for evaluating and developing key suppliers to ensure they meet Vertiv’s standards for on-time delivery, cost, and continuous improvement. This role acts as a technical liaison between Vertiv Procurement and its suppliers, driving supplier performance improvement and enabling mutual business growth for Vertiv and the suppliers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate existing and new suppliers based on capability, capacity, cost, flexibility, quality, and operating system.
- Validate suppliers’ supply chains (including tier 2 constraint suppliers) and manufacturing capacity/capabilities to improve on-time delivery and delivery flexibility
- Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Evaluate suppliers’ manufacturing processes, tooling, and production flow using engineering analysis and data validation.
- Implement supplier world-class process checklists (e.g., continuous improvement operating system, customer-facing KPIs…) and drive suppliers towards a continuous improvement environment.
- Support CM development and implementation of supplier improvement plans focusing on delivery, capability, cost reductions, and quality.
- Perform process capability studies and validate readiness for production.
- Partner with Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and New Product Introduction (NPI) at supplier sites.
- Analyze supplier performance using statistical tools and data analytics to identify trends and improvement opportunities (QBRs with the CMs).
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve delivery issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure root cause analysis.
- Strengthen the supply relationship between suppliers and Vertiv plants
- Support sourcing and procurement teams in supplier selection and onboarding processes.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders (Procurement, Supplier Quality, Engineering, Operations) to communicate requirements and changes.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics and present findings and improvement action plans to leadership.
- Lead supplier development projects and initiatives to support business objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers on company standards, Lean operating system and overall best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- 7+ years’ experience in supplier development, industrial / manufacturing engineering or supplier quality
- Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing, capacity planning, and quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, etc.).
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is highly preferred
- Proven experience driving suppliers' lead time improvement strategies is strongly preferred.
- Experience with supplier audits, process validation, and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
- Ability to travel flexibly and work onsite at supplier sites is necessary.
- Must be proficient in MS Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Power BI, Microsoft Project, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to perform under pressure in a very fast-paced, complex, and dynamic environment
- Experience documenting/designing business processes, performing business analysis, and requirements definition
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, fabrication, assembly), process validation (PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ), GD&T and engineering drawings interpretation, tolerance stack-up and DFM principles
- Experience with process simulation / capacity modeling (i.e Should cost), automation and tooling development (preferred)
