B&G Foods is seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Manager to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of supplier quality and food safety programs across our ingredients within the spice, seasoning, seed, herb and flavor/additives supply base. This position is responsible for ensuring suppliers meet B&G Foods' quality, food safety, regulatory, and customer requirements while driving risk reduction and continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in supplier quality management within the food manufacturing industry, with significant experience in the spices, seasonings, herbs, dehydrated ingredients, and flavor systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge of supplier approval and monitoring programs, food safety auditing, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and supplier performance management.
Responsibilities:
Supplier Qualification & Approval
- Lead the supplier approval, qualification, and requalification programs for ingredients including: spices, seasonings, herbs, dehydrated ingredients, and flavor systems.
- Evaluate supplier food safety systems, quality management systems, regulatory compliance, and operational capabilities.
- Perform risk-based supplier assessments and establish supplier risk ratings.
- Review supplier documentation and support onboarding of new suppliers and ingredients in TraceGains.
Supplier Auditing
- Conduct supplier audits and assessments at domestic and international manufacturing facilities.
- Issue audit reports and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Monitor supplier corrective action effectiveness and closure.
- Partner with Procurement to address supplier performance concerns and risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with suppliers on risk reduction strategies specific to spice and seasoning ingredient supply chains.
Supplier Performance Management
- Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze supplier performance trends related to:
- Audit results, Complaints, Non-conformances, CaPA effectiveness
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with strategic suppliers.
- Lead supplier business reviews with cross-functional teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Procurement, Operations, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams to ensure supplier compliance and business continuity.
- Support project and product commercialization activities within the Spice/Seasonings Business Unit.
- Provide supplier quality expertise for investigations, recalls, withdrawals, and supplier-related incidents.
- Participate in crisis management and supply chain risk mitigation efforts.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain supplier quality procedures, policies, and standards.
Experience, Skills, Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, or related scientific/technical discipline required.
- Minimum 7 years of food manufacturing experience with 5 years’ experience in supplier quality, food safety and/or supply chain, required.
- Demonstrated experience auditing food manufacturing facilities required.
- Experience managing supplier corrective actions and continuous improvement programs required.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%, a must.
- Experience in the spice, seasoning, herb, flavor, botanical, or agricultural ingredient industries, highly preferred.
- Lead Auditor certification preferred.
- PCQI certification preferred.
- Experience with global sourcing and international supplier networks, preferred.
- Knowledge of food fraud, food defense, and ingredient authenticity programs.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and co-manufacturers, ideal.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range:
$101,897-$135,863
Final base pay will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to; role responsibilities, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and/or internal pay equity. Please keep in mind that we consider internal pay equity and hiring at the maximum of the salary range uncommon.
