This is a position at Grade 9.

 

 Job Summary

The Supervisor, Work Equipment is responsible for overseeing the daily coordination, maintenance, and utilization of work equipment that supports production gangs. This role ensures equipment reliability, optimal utilization, and compliance with all safety standards. The position involves a combination of field and office work to effectively support production activities and align with CN’s objectives.

Main Responsibilities

·       Ensure safety, compliance, and focus on implementation

·       Lead the operation of the system production team, shops and cover other Supervisors territory for vacation relief

·       Lead unionized staff to ensure maintenance and repair work on CN’s equipment is performed safely and efficiently

·       Provide a safe work environment based on consistent policies, procedures, and training methodologies

·       Furnish reliable equipment fleet through maintenance and repair processes

·       Ensure that equipment is available to the end user to meet program schedules and track maintenance requirements

·       Stabilize overall operating costs for equipment repair and maintenance through implementing unit cost analysis categorized under equipment type

·       Build, maintain, and motivate an effective team

·       Monitor cost of labour, inventory, and materials to ensure cost control and asset utilization are implemented

·       Understand and control cost center's monthly as well as the annual budget

 

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with shift work, including irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires regular travel (75%) at times without advance notice. The role must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences.

Requirements

Experience

Cost Control and Budget Management

·       Minimum 2 years of experience in cost control and budget management or related industry

o   Experience supervising Mechanics in a shop or field setting

o   Experience in similar working conditions and regulatory and safety environment*

o   Experience overseeing budgets*

o   Experience supervising unionized workforce, including interpretation of collective agreements, response to grievances, negotiations with union representatives, and discipline*

Education/Certification/Designation

·       High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)

·       Licensed Heavy-Duty Mechanic*

·       Bachelor’s Degree of Commerce or Business Diploma*

·       United States Operating Rules (USOR) qualified*
