Job Title:  Supervisor, Warehouse

Reports To: Manager, Operations

Position Location:  Charleston, SC

FLSA Status (Exempt/Non-Exempt):  Exempt


Position Summary: 

The Warehouse Supervisor provides leadership for the warehouse team including receiving, stocking, inventory control, picking, packing, shipping and maintenance functions to ensure product moves efficiently, effectively and safely through the warehouse. This position regularly exercises independent judgment to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision.  Operates a powered industrial truck/forklift to perform daily tasks as needed.


Key Responsibilities: 

•    Organizes the staff and workload to meet or exceed distribution productivity performance standards for designated area.  Develops daily work schedules as workload situation demands.  Coordinates all warehouse activities to provide a smooth and efficient flow of work.   Ensures that all warehouse and maintenance functions occur in a time sensitive manner and that resources are properly trained and aligned.

•    Provides leadership to a group of team members, who provide timely solutions to customer needs. Participates in candidate selection. Trains, evaluates, and recommends and delivers disciplinary action when necessary, for issues such as attendance, performance, safety, or policy violation.  Conducts annual performance reviews and feedback sessions with employees as needed to discuss metrics and performance related issues, prior to issues becoming increasingly serious.  Supervises staff in a manner that is consistent with organizational culture.  Actively seeks development opportunities for team members.  Promotes a friendly environment, good morale and cooperation among team members.  Reconciles and approves time detail for employees in Time and Attendance system.

•    Recommends and develops ideas for improvement in operating methods and procedures, and to resolve problems when these arise.  Makes recommendations to improve warehouse layout, workflow, operating costs and customer service, for consideration and approval by the leadership team.   

•    Resolves customer service (internal/external) issues via phone, fax, and e-mail and first-person meetings, at times partnering with other departments and utilizing whatever resources necessary; using the same avenues to strengthen business relationships. 

•    Maintains safety standards and training in the department; ensures that the building is maintained in a clean and safe manner and that inventories and equipment are properly protected against theft, fire and other hazards that may cause loss or damage.  Utilizes good housekeeping practices by using the PRIDE program and assigning housekeeping areas to each employee to maintain daily.

•    Follows-up on hazardous materials packaging, storage and shipping to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.  Assures the correct amount of employees are trained and certified in hazardous shipping to cover the customer’s needs.

•    Performs daily cycle counts to ensure accuracy of physical inventory and participates in both internal and external audits when necessary (multiple times annually). 

•    Identifies and resolves/reconciles inventory variances, identifies and corrects root cause(s) of errors.

•    Responsible for general building maintenance including the opening and closing of facility while managing relationships with housekeeping vendors.

•    Ensures pick locations are replenished promptly.  Also makes sure inbound material is stocked on shelves timely to make them available for orders.

•    Oversees the Preparation/processing of the proper paperwork for all shipments (domestic and international) as well as receiving, while ensuring proper ERP system updates occur.

•    Assists in the formulation of annual operating budget and objectives.

•    Ensures that committed orders ship on time and that carriers comply with scheduled pick-up commitments.

•    Perform other duties as assigned.



Education: 

•    Bachelor’s Degree required in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.


Experience: 

•    Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership/supervisory experience required in a manufacturing or distribution environment.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: 

•    Experience supervising multiple functions within the distribution center, including but not limited to; Inbound (receiving), Stocking, Picking, Packing, and Shipping Departments.

•    Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

•    Must possess the leadership and supervisory skills be able to lead, coach and motivate employees along with excellent interpersonal skills to relate well to employees, peers, various levels of management, and have a strong customer orientation to develop strong customer relationships.  Must be able to handle conflict well and give positive and negative feedback along with managing performance issues.  

•    Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to evaluate issues as they occur and respond to issues with creative problem solving.  Must possess problem solving skills to be able to manage the area of responsibility and utilize personnel efficiently to meet company standards.

•    Must be computer literate be able to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. Must have exposure to a WMS (Warehouse Management System). ERP experience preferred. 

•    Proven understanding of basic mathematical functions.

•    Experience operating a forklift preferred, previous/current certification a plus.

•    Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. with reasonable accommodations.

•    Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressure, within deadlines or other time essential constraints.

•    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization.

•    Strong work ethic and an ability to excel within a rapidly changing and growing organization.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $55,000-75,000, depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
