1st Shift Supervisor, Shipping/Receiving

We are seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Supervisor to lead daily warehouse and logistics operations within a fast-paced corrugated packaging manufacturing environment in Whitestown, IN. This role is responsible for supervising shipping and receiving personnel, coordinating semi-truck load planning, ensuring DOT compliance, maintaining warehouse organization, and supporting on-time delivery performance.
The successful candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a manufacturing environment, understands transportation logistics, and can balance operational efficiency with safety and customer service. Strong attention to detail, warehouse organization, and load-planning expertise are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving Operations
- Supervise daily shipping and receiving activities to ensure accurate and timely movement of materials and finished goods.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound freight schedules with carriers, customers, and production teams.
- Verify shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing slips, and inventory records for accuracy.
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments comply with company standards and customer requirements.
DOT & Transportation Compliance
- Maintain working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance requirements.
- Ensure proper load securement, weight distribution, and documentation for outbound shipments.
- Coordinate and monitor carrier compliance, driver check-in/check-out procedures, and transportation safety practices.
- Assist with audits, inspections, and transportation-related recordkeeping.
Semi-Truck Load Planning
- Plan and optimize semi-truck loads to maximize trailer utilization and minimize freight costs.
- Coordinate multi-stop deliveries and route efficiencies when applicable.
- Work closely with production scheduling to prioritize shipments and avoid delivery delays.
- Monitor shipment status and resolve transportation or scheduling issues proactively.
Warehouse Organization & Inventory Control
- Maintain organized warehouse layouts for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Oversee inventory accuracy through cycle counts and proper material handling procedures.
- Implement and maintain housekeeping and 5S standards throughout the warehouse.
- Ensure safe forklift traffic patterns and warehouse storage practices.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and support warehouse personnel, forklift operators, and truck drivers.
- Assign daily workloads and monitor productivity and performance.
- Promote a strong safety culture and enforce company policies and procedures.
- Participate in hiring, coaching, disciplinary actions, and employee development.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics operations.
- Experience in the corrugated packaging, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance.
- Experience with semi-truck load planning and freight coordination.
- Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced production environment.
- Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
- Forklift certification.
- Experience with lean manufacturing or 5S warehouse organization.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
