Calspan JETS is the world’s number one supplier of ground-based testing solutions and expertise for the aerospace industry. Our customers get a single, experienced partner to help them efficiently validate engine and airframe performance across development, production and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).

We are looking for a motivated Structural/Mechanical Designer to be responsible for efficient production of drawings from engineering inputs for jet engine test cells. This includes concept drawings for facilities and detailed fabrication and installation drawings for the special test equipment that populates the facility.

 

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  • Budget and Schedule Management –Prioritize tasks and minimize rework to ensure projects stay within labor budgets and schedule. Coordinate with project team to ensure cohesiveness while remaining accountable on drawing release commitments. 
  • Drawing/Drafting – Generate concept/schematic building drawings that will be handed off to local A&E firm.  Generate detailed fabrication and installation equipment CAD drawings.
  • Design – Collaborate with engineering on equipment and building designs.  Develop new designs referencing existing designs and engineering sketches.  Provide quality drawings by checking work and picking up engineering redlines.
  • BOM & Releases – Manage the drawing and BOM (Bill of Material) release process. Initiate the release workflow found in PDM (Product Data Management) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). Communicate to stakeholders (sub-contracts, procurement, assembly, & installation) when drawings or BOMs are released.
  • Support and Closeout – Keep drawings accurate and in sync with markups from the field.  Perform baselining and drawing finalization as part of project closure in a timely fashion. 

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Associates degree in Architectural Drafting, Engineering Drafting or related discipline
  • 3+ years of exeperience;or
  • a combination of education and experience equivalent to above
  • To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government. Do you meet this requirement?

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD systems – AutoCAD, Revit, and SolidWorks preferred
  • Experience with PDM and ERP systems
  • Experience in construction and/or installation and fabrication
  • Experience in the following disciplines – Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing
  • Experience with industrial plants/facilities
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Must be a self-starter, able to balance priorities between multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively and productively as an individual contributor and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team
