Structural Steel Project Manager

Pay: $55,000–$75,000/year DOE

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Location: Shreveport, LA 71106

A Shreveport structural steel manufacturing and fabrication facility is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager to oversee projects from estimating and approved drawings through fabrication, shipping, and completion.

This is primarily an in-house project management position supporting new construction projects. The Project Manager will coordinate the materials, purchasing, production schedules, fabrication, and logistics required to keep multiple steel projects moving from blueprint to finished product.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction, structural, and fabrication drawings

• Assist with project estimating and cost calculations

• Take ownership of awarded projects from approved drawings through completion

• Determine material requirements for upcoming fabrication projects

• Coordinate purchasing and procurement of steel and other required materials

• Create and track purchase orders and communicate with vendors

• Monitor material availability and lead times to prevent production delays

• Coordinate internally with drafting, fabrication, production, purchasing, shipping, and receiving

• Establish and monitor project timelines and production priorities

• Track fabrication progress against project deadlines

• Identify material, production, or scheduling issues and coordinate solutions

• Coordinate shipping and delivery requirements for completed steel

• Maintain accurate project information using Excel and company ERP systems

• Ensure projects remain organized and moving through each stage of production

Requirements

• Previous structural steel or steel fabrication experience required

• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and structural drawings

• Understanding of structural steel materials, fabrication processes, and terminology

• Experience with project coordination or project management in a manufacturing, fabrication, or construction environment

• Estimating experience strongly preferred

• Purchasing, procurement, or material planning experience preferred

• Experience coordinating production schedules and deadlines

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

• Previous ERP or manufacturing software experience preferred

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects

• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, production personnel, management, and customers as needed

Ideal Background

The ideal candidate understands how a structural steel project moves from a set of drawings to fabricated material ready for delivery. This position is best suited for someone with hands-on industry knowledge who can understand the drawings, anticipate material and production needs, and coordinate the different departments required to complete the job.

This is not primarily a field-based construction position. The majority of the work is performed at the Shreveport manufacturing facility, coordinating projects through the fabrication process.
