This position requires a skilled fitter who can accurately measure, align, and tack structural steel assemblies and also perform quality structural welding. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking a project from layout and fit-up through final welding and inspection.
Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, blueprints, fabrication details, weld symbols, and work orders.
Lay out, measure, mark, fit, and assemble beams, columns, plates, angles, channels, and other structural steel components.
Verify dimensions, squareness, alignment, hole locations, joint preparation, and tolerances before welding.
Tack-weld components securely in the correct position prior to final welding.
Perform Metal-core and/or flux-core structural steel welding on fitted assemblies and miscellaneous steel components.
Complete structural welds according to required weld sizes, locations, specifications, and shop procedures.
Inspect fit-up and completed welds for accuracy, strength, appearance, and overall quality.
Identify and repair weld defects or make fit-up corrections as necessary.
