This role is responsible for the design, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of metal sheet structures on rigs, ships, and barges. Work is performed in industrial and marine environments, including shipyards and waterfront facilities. The position requires strong stick welding experience and the ability to work safely in physically demanding conditions.
Weld metal components to repair or fabricate parts for crane buckets, ship holds, barges, and industrial equipment
Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production schedules
Inspect, measure, test, and adjust completed welds and fabricated components to ensure conformance with specifications
Assemble, align, clamp, and fit metal components prior to welding or heat treatment
Set up, operate, and maintain welding machines, torches, grinders, and related equipment
Heat, grind, burn, and fit metal parts using appropriate hand and power tools
Monitor welding and fitting processes to prevent overheating or material damage
Fabricate and fit substrates as required
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies
Complete required documentation accurately and timely
Perform additional duties as assigned
Education
Experience
Minimum 3 years of stick welding experience
Prior experience in shipyards, marine, or heavy industrial environments strongly preferred
Intermediate to advanced understanding of mechanical maintenance and metal fabrication
Working knowledge of welding equipment, tools, and industrial machinery
Ability to read measurements and perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
Strong attention to detail and quality
Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
Effective communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams
Strong problem-solving and logical reasoning skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Commitment to safety and customer service
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work at significant heights

Ability to work around water and grain handling environments
Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, wet, or humid conditions
Manual dexterity, arm/hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
Ability to wear and properly use required PPE
Ability to work in high-dust environments
Near, far, and peripheral vision with depth perception
Ability to communicate verbally in person and over two-way radio
5%–20% travel may be required depending on facility needs
Travel may include off-site training or temporary work at alternate locations
