Stand-Up Forklift Operator Job Description

Position Summary

Operate electric-powered industrial trucks (stand-up forklifts) to safely move products, equipment, and materials throughout the facility. Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory safety standards while ensuring the accurate loading and unloading of materials.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely position forks or lifting devices under, over, or around pallets, skids, and materials to transport, load, and unload items to designated areas
  • Accurately record product details such as weight, counts, and condition of frozen food items using a Radio Frequency (RF) system
  • Complete daily forklift inspection and maintenance checklists
  • Conduct safety inspections, including trailer chocking and glad-hand connection procedures
  • Communicate effectively with truck drivers to ensure proper safety protocols are followed during loading and unloading
  • Monitor battery levels, perform routine maintenance and cleaning, and store equipment at designated charging stations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Operate other material handling equipment and machinery as needed
  • Support warehouse operations as assigned

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Basic math and counting skills
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in the company’s designated language
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, ranging from -20°F (-25°C) in freezer environments to 100°F (37°C) in dry storage, while using required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. (18 kg); may vary by facility
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed
  • Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels, which may be loud at times
