Join the team powering GM’s AI Robotics transformation! Our robotics software engineering group partners directly with research and manufacturing teams to prototype and deploy AI-powered solutions that will drive the future of vehicle manufacturing.
Our Mission & Core Responsibilities: We bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI technology and real-world business needs, helping GM translate its manufacturing goals into scalable, high-impact AI software. We design and build GM’s foundational data, model training, inference, and evaluation frameworks, supporting technologies such as reinforcement learning and vision-language-action models that are unlocking transformations in the robotics space.
The Role: As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will play a critical role in shaping GM’s future through the high-impact solutions you develop
You will collaborate directly with internal business and engineering partners, prototyping and deploying AI systems that enable smarter, faster, and more efficient operations across GM’s global enterprise. You’ll lead high-impact AI engineering projects across multiple domains within manufacturing and robotics, set the technical direction for solution prototyping, and guide cross-functional collaboration. Acting as a key technical advisor to business and engineering leaders, you’ll mentor engineers and ensure that GM’s AI robotics solutions are robust, adaptable, and aligned with enterprise goals.
What You’ll Do
Depending on level and scope, you will:
Partner with internal clients to understand their goals, challenges, and opportunities for AI adoption.
Prototype end-to-end AI solutions — from model evaluation and integration to deployment-ready proofs of concept.
Evaluate and apply state-of-the-art AI technologies (e.g., perception, reinforcement learning, world models) to solve real business problems.
Collaborate cross-functionally with vehicle engineering, manufacturing, data, and IT teams to ensure successful implementation and knowledge transfer.
Communicate complex AI concepts effectively to non-technical audiences, bridging the gap between technical innovation and business impact.
Lead high-impact AI enablement projects and mentor engineers across teams.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
7 years of experience in software engineering, AI platform and/or applied robotics.
Proven ability to translate business problems into technical AI solutions.
Strong understanding of modern AI methods and their practical applications (LLMs, diffusion models, computer vision, predictive modeling, etc.).
Proficiency in Python and one of C++/Java/Go.
Excellent communication and consulting skills; ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional partners.
Experience leading complex AI projects end-to-end, from scoping to prototype delivery.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience in automotive, manufacturing, or large-scale industrial applications.
Experience working with foundational model applications in the robotics space .
Familiarity with robotics frameworks and tools (e.g., ROS, Isaac Sim). .
Strong track record of delivering applied AI prototypes that demonstrate measurable business impact
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the MTV or Warren office three times per week or any other frequency dictated by the business.
