About this opportunity:
The role of the Staff Site Operations Engineer contributes to Cenovus’s production goals by optimizing value and profitability from surface assets. The role is accountable for:
Resolving health, safety, environmental, and regulatory problems and keeping surface assets producing
Enhancing plant performance, optimizing plant profitability, identifying bottlenecks, driving solutions with appropriate teams, and ensuring value accretive decisions are made on a continual basis
Stewarding or contributing to key business processes / strategic initiatives, and technical stewardship as well as leading and developing site team members
The role supports the Lloydminster Thermal district which includes SAGD processing facilities with raw water producing assets and distribution network. The role regularly collaborates with on-site or remote teams (such as Operations, Production Engineering, Development Engineering, Capital Projects Process Engineering, iSTO, Facilities Engineering, other engineering disciplines and Maintenance). As such, this role requires proficiency in managing relationships and expectations across many different teams as well as remotely, across geographic locations.

This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area
What you’ll do:
Ensure the Thermal SAGD facilities are optimized for maximum throughput within their Safe Operating Limits (through monitoring and optimizing facility performance, debottleneck identification and scoping of new projects, solving plant issues that are production impacting and extremely time sensitive, and minimizing OpEx costs through process optimization)
Steward or contribute to key business processes and initiatives (Monthly Production Reporting, Lost Production Allocation, Production Threat Management, Thermal Raw Water Management, Safe Operating Limits, TECH Meetings, Fluid Sample Management, Threat Assessment Process, iSTO)
Manage high-priority commitments by doing the work themselves while leading and technically stewarding a team of 1-3 site operations process engineers. Responsible for ensuring effective prioritization and efficient workload distribution between themselves and their team members to meet objectives across the district
Collaborate with the Operations Process Engineering Technical team to uphold and reinforces standards of practice and technical principles/approaches with direct reports and peers)
Support quantification of process safety and business risk through operational risk assessments
Complete process safety event release calculations to quantify release volumes and categorize Process Safety Events for the Cenovus corporate scorecard. Support process safety event incident investigations
Support annual process safety review programs (ex. revalidation HAZOPs) and action item resolution
Support regulatory and emissions compliance by providing guidance on venting and flaring. Support the Enhanced Production Audit Program (process engineering estimates, monthly or quarterly gas sample verification, audits)
Support annual turnaround and outage planning (including budgeting) and providing process engineering support
Support delivery of the long-range plan by supporting Capital Projects Process Engineering front-end scoping
Support failure investigations
Identify and drive continuous improvement
Complete and steward engineering work in alignment with the Cenovus professional practice management plan
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Post-secondary in Chemical Engineering or relevant
P. Eng. designation from APEGS
12+ years relevant experience
Advanced skills in SAGD with significant knowledge in Operations Process Engineering supported by a strong understanding of upstream process, equipment, and other core SAGD functions
Proven experience in core process engineering functions such as: process simulations, control valve sizing, PSV/PVRV sizing, line sizing, vessel/HEX sizing/performance, pump curves/sizing/performance, determination of bottlenecks, benchmarking, etc.
Advanced knowledge of regulatory and code requirements and how to operate the facilities within our Safe Operating Limits (SOLs)
Previous leadership experience overseeing a team of engineers
Proficient in fields such as Production Engineering, Development Engineering, Major Projects Process Engineering Design, Facility Engineering

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
