POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Product Design Engineer leads the development of new and improved products from concept through production launch. Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering and Product Management, this role plays a key part in driving innovation across the product portfolio. This role collaborates closely with Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Suppliers, and Customer service to deliver solutions that meet customer, quality, cost, and compliance requirements. They also support product lifecycle activities, drive product improvements, and resolve quality concerns across new and existing plumbing and gas-related products.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the office, subject to change based on company needs.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the building and development of new and enhanced customer‑focused products from initial idea to production launch.
Own product development activities including design, prototyping, testing, verification, validation, and certification in alignment with quality and design control requirements.
Develop and support test plans methods and review results to confirm product performance and compliance.
Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Suppliers to architect manufacturable designs, participate in supplier reviews, and support smooth transitions to production.
Manage development activities and drawing/print support throughout the product development cycle.
Support both newly introduced and current products through launch coordination, documentation, quality issue resolution, product improvements, and opportunities for cost savings.
Provide advanced technical expertise for assigned product areas, supporting customer inquiries, internal training, and developing user documentation and presentations.
Leverage sales feedback, market insights, and customer voice to identify unmet needs, drive meaningful product innovation, and shape the long‑term product roadmap.
Monitor emerging technologies, competitive trends, and evolving industry standards, leveraging insights to drive innovation, inform design decisions, and strengthen the product portfolio’s competitive position.
Present complex technical concepts and project status updates to senior management and other key stakeholders, providing clear recommendations, risk assessments, and data‑driven insights
Travel approximately 10–15%, including visits to suppliers, manufacturing sites, customers, or industry events
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field
10 years of experience supporting product development projects
Advanced mechanical design experience, including CAD modeling, GD&T, tolerance analysis, simulation, prototyping and should cost analysis.
Hands‑on experience with product verification and validation, test methods, and structured experimentation.
Experience using quality assurance and reliability tools, DFMEA/DFMEA, manufacturing processes, and ISO‑based quality systems.
Familiarity with plumbing industry standards and regulations, proficiency with engineering documentation tools, and experience in partnering with various teams with occasional travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
COMPETENCIES:
Effective organizational and prioritization skills, with attention to detail and sound technical judgment.
Solid understanding of machining, molding, and assembly manufacturing processes.
Demonstrates ability to proactively problem-solve and respond to challenges with urgency.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative, team‑oriented approach to learning and execution.
