POSITION: Senior Engineer

FUNCTION: Engineering – Lead the technical Execution of Electronics Manufacturing Services

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Senior Engineer is a senior contributor role at Creation Technologies, focused on executing complex to highly complex engineering tasks required in the creation, configuration and optimization of industrial processes required to produce and/or test Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and/or box assemblies. This advanced-level engineering position is crucial for those looking to elevate their career in electronics manufacturing services, providing an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge while leveraging and further developing several areas of subject matter expertise while adhering to industry standards and practices. This role executes and leads engineering activities within the business unit and/or regional teams with the support of Engineering Management. REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to Process/MFG/Test Engineering Team

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:

  • Engages in the setup and process readiness of existing and new manufacturing processes, including equipment & tooling, while ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of electronics principles and manufacturing services processes.
  • Executes standard engineering projects and tasks, including prototype projects, and performs complex technical work within the engineering team, ensuring compliance with quality standards and that products meet customer required specifications and standards. Resolves the complex escalated issues as required.
  • Engages in the documentation of manufacturing processes and procedures, ensuring accurate records and adherence to protocols.
  • Maintains and/or troubleshoots the equipment, tools and tooling necessary for electronic manufacturing processes, minimizing downtime, and maintaining production efficiency. Works with other business functions on complex problems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs the most difficult products, as required.
  • Works and leads effectively within the engineering team, other functions, and 3rd party partners, communicating technical information clearly and contributing to operational goals.
  • Supports, drives and leads continuous improvement and productivity improvements efforts, on existing processes and in new process development.
  • Performs root cause corrective and preventive actions in complex situations.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to interns, and/or technicians, and/or engineers.

  • Senior Process Engineer Specific:
    • Executes and leads process engineering tasks and activities with the support of Process Engineering management.
    • Brings deep knowledge of the PCBA and box build processes, including but not limited to:
      • SMT equipment, tooling, materials, and processes.
      • Auto insertion, solder flow processes and cleaning processes
      • Automated labelling, marking, conformal coating, potting and manual/auto assembly.
      • Box build manufacturing techniques.
    • Implements, qualifies, and validates new process technologies and equipment, ensuring seamless integration into production.
    • Executes the validation of complex process changes, documenting outcomes and adjusting procedures as necessary.
    • Performs Design for Manufacture / Assembly analysis with cross functional teams and customers.
    • Monitors and drives key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzes data to identify and resolve systemic process and performance issues as needed.
    • Performs, drives, and leads broad continuous improvement initiatives for process optimization, cost reduction, and enhanced yield and quality.
    • Participates in, drives, and leads in the research and evaluation of new process technologies and materials to enhance production capabilities.
    • Provides technical training and support to manufacturing trainers or senior personnel to improve overall capabilities and knowledge as needed.
    • Supports PCBA & box-build production, as required, in the difficult matters.
    • Documents and maintains equipment, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective, and aligned with product specifications. Uses and is an architect of the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
    • Key contributor to the CapEx Roadmap for the Site.

  • Senior Manufacturing Engineer Specific:
    • Executes and leads MFG engineering tasks and activities with the support of Manufacturing Engineering management.
    • Expert in PLM and MES systems as a user.
    • Ensures the translation of customer requirements to assembly and test processes by Managing Bill of Materials (BOM), document control, and validates routing; drives New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes. This includes the impact of on materials of customer specification.
    • Engages in detailed manufacturing process documentation, including work instructions, as received from customer, and prepped for release to production floor.
    • Create Assembly documents, Bill of Process and SMT/AOI Machine files (use of CAM350, Factory Logix, or other MES and CAD/CAM software).
    • Generate, and support the control, and distribution of manufacturing process documentation including Process Plans and Procurement specifications.
    • Perform Design for Manufacture analysis with cross functional teams and customers.
    • Creates formal and comprehensive DFx presentations, covering Design for Fabrication, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Test, Design for Environment and Design for Procurement, for external clientele and tailoring the technical depth to match that desired by the intended audience.
    • Supports, drives, and leads schedules for engineering projects, including coordinating tasks and resources for above schedule within the engineering team.
    • Participates in cross-functional teams to drive manufacturing process improvements to enhance production efficiency and product quality.
    • Reviews and updates manufacturing procedures to ensure they are current and effective.
    • Provides technical training and support to the manufacturing team, aiding in the resolution of complex engineering issues that affect production and prevent continuous production flow.
    • Develop cell assembly playbooks, lean manufacturing methods, simple benchtop automation, point of use materials presentation techniques and both efficient and protective product packaging methods.
    • Monitors, drives, and leads key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzes data to identify and resolve systemic process and performance issues.
    • Be a leading resource on facilitating answers for Engineering Questions (EQs) and Technical Questions (TQs) for vendors, especially PCB Vendors.

  • Senior Test Engineer Specific:
    • Executes and leads Test engineering tasks and activities with the support of Test Engineering team.
    • Read and develop wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
    • Capable of the reverse engineering of missing wiring diagrams and schematic drawings for trouble shooting assemblies while also passing along their knowledge of applicable electronic theory and the unique components germane to a particular assembly.
    • Expert knowledge of all industry available test and product evaluation equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), in-circuit testers, functional test systems (including executables & test stands), automatic x-ray and optical inspection so that they can devise the best test strategy for new product introductions.
    • Formulates test station architectures, build instructions and develops the testing procedures for either third party or in-house tester development.
    • Provides test station build and develops testing procedures.
    • Designs and implements test fixtures and setups to improve test efficiency and accuracy.
    • Documents, maintains, and improves test solutions, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective and aligned with product specifications. Uses and is an architect of the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
    • Troubleshoots and calibrates test equipment, test setups and fixtures, while resolving issues and ensuring test accuracy and reliability of test results.
    • Improves test strategies, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of testing.
    • Provides technical training and support to technicians and engineers in the use of test equipment and execution of test procedures.
    • Perform Design for Test analysis with cross functional teams and customers.
    • Analyze electronic and electromechanical assemblies to determine cause of complex product defect to include circuit analysis, part identification diagnosis and replacement of defective components to bring product into specification.
    • Analyze complex defective components to determine failure cause and provide report, if necessary, for Engineering and Supply Chain corrective action.
    • Resolve the difficult Debug escalations.
    • Monitors, drives, and leads key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzes data to identify and resolve systemic process and performance issues.
    • Key contributor to the CapEx Roadmap for the Site.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 year) in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Mechatronic, or other relevant discipline) or a related field with a focus on electronics and manufacturing processes or equivalent industry or military training experience. A master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with 6 to 10+ years of engineering support experience in electronics manufacturing preferred.

Skills Required

  • Ability to interpret any technical documents / drawings effectively.
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards such as ISO9001/13485 or AS9100.
  • Expert knowledge of the concepts of New Product Introduction and how to execute projects including supporting functions.
  • Executes Design for Assembly and Test tasks as required.
  • Follows and creates detailed instructions and adheres to safety guidelines.
  • Deep problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to learn, apply, develop, and teach new skills in a dynamic manufacturing services environment.
  • Deep knowledge of IPC standards including J-Standards, IPC 610 Class 2 and Class 3, IPC-600, and IPC 7711/7721, Lean principles, six sigma and industrial ergonomics.
  • Proficient in using Computer systems and deep knowledge of CAD/CAM and programming.
  • Solid engineering project management and project leadership skills.
