Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer
Fontaine Trailer Company, Commercial Business Unit, is currently seeking an innovative hands-on Sr. Mechanical Engineer who enjoys creative problem solving and achieving results to become a member of our highly experienced team. Fontaine Trailer is the largest flatbed trailer manufacturer in the world with a legacy dating back to 1945. Fontaine Trailer is a member company of the Marmon Group operating independently within the Marmon Highway Technologies business unit which primarily serves the heavy-duty highway transportation industry. The parent company, The Marmon Group is part of the Berkshire Hathaway Company family.



The selected candidate will be responsible for product design from concept development through final implementation including production lifecycle support. The candidate must have a strong product design background and proven project lead capabilities. A working knowledge of 3-D drawing systems is required and experience with Finite Element Analysis is a plus. This position also requires knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing techniques with a strong focus on Value Add / Value Engineering responsibilities leading to product cost reductions. A strong customer focus and good communication skills are also required. Responsibilities will include customer interaction, product design, Production Process, and fixture improvements, along with daily interaction with the designers and production team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualified candidates must Have BSME with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in product design, preferably in a structural manufacturing environment. Trailer experience a strong plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of 3-D CAD modeling software. Siemens NX experience preferred.
  • Experience in finite element analysis a plus.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes with focus on Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream mapping, and VA/VE process including welding and assembly techniques required.
  • ISO/APQP knowledge with capability to perform FMEA (design and process), develop process flows and work with manufacturing to develop production process.
  • Demonstrated analytic and empirical problem-solving skills.
  • Must have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Thorough understanding of design for manufacturability and serviceability a must.
  • Must be able to interface with customers, sales and production personnel on projects as required.
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Project, Access, PowerPoint, etc...).
  • Statistical knowledge for Life cycle calculations

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The selected engineer will have a high level of self-initiative, with an ability to plan, manage tasks, conceptualize, and implement ideas with minimal supervision.
  • Candidate must work well as a member of a team and adapt well to a changing environment. A positive, can-do attitude is required.
  • Represent the Design Engineering Team with professionalism and integrity when communicating with the customer, cross functional teams, as well as the entire organization.
  • Research, develop, design, and test mechanical parts, components, and assemblies needed for prototypes and final products. Assist in developing and implementing design procedures.
  • Assist in all functions required to generate Bills of Materials and process ECR’s /ECN’s for product requirements.
  • Focus on developing and implementing cost saving ideas including research, selection and validation of outsourced products.
  • Support manufacturing floor through lean manufacturing events as well as sales and purchasing functions as required.
  • Assist in warranty analysis to improve existing products by analyzing and finding root cause and designing solutions to address field issues.
  • Work toward developing overall responsibility for the design team; that could include engineers, and designers.
