Job Overview:

Job Title:  Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Department:   Facilities 

Accountability:   This position reports to the Facilities Manager

Job Summary:   This individual will act as the primary change agent for the manufacturing and supporting operations, driving Continuous Process Improvement, Lean Transformation, and Profit Improvement projects and initiatives.  Primary accountabilities include developing and maintaining robust manufacturing processes, developing and implementing a production system based on best practices in manufacturing, and new product introductions into manufacturing, all while embracing best practices in Lean.  Secondary accountabilities include leading efforts to identify and address waste opportunities through the evaluation and improvement of existing business processes.

Responsibilities:              

  • Work with key stakeholders to drive process improvements that quantitatively and qualitatively improve safety, quality, service, and cost
  • Lead projects and/or cross-functional teams in identifying, evaluating, and developing effective processes, procedures and solutions to meet business needs
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of a production system based on Lean Six Sigma, and other best practices in manufacturing
  • Assist in the launch of new products and/or product extensions into manufacturing operations, including the development of new manufacturing capacity and capabilities
  • Support implementation of continuous improvement methodologies including, but not limited to 5S, Lean Principles, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and others
  • Provide training on new and existing processes to employees, while monitoring and reporting on results and performing typical administrative activities such as user issue resolution
  • Lead process improvement teams to optimize facility layout, material flow, tooling requirements, and part fixturing through a team based approach of problem resolution, project management, and employee training
  • Work closely with Engineering to optimize design for manufacturability
  • Investigate process issues, compile and analyze data, perform root cause analysis, identify solutions and recommend corrective actions
  • Monitor and improve the efficiency and output of manufacturing processes through observations, measurements and data collection
  • Develop standardized documents, such as Process flow, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Work Instructions on new and existing manufacturing procedures and train employees
  • Communicate job expectations, evaluate employee performance and complete performance appraisals for manufacturing engineers
  • Support professional growth opportunities for direct reports
  • Assist with other projects as assigned by the Facilities Manager

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.  MBA or advanced technical degree a plus
  • 10+ years’ manufacturing management or engineering experience required.  Discreet manufacturing environment, high mix, low volume preferred.
  • 5+ years of successful Continuous Process Improvement and Quality Assurance experience required, Lean Six Sigma certification(s) preferred
  • Work experience and/or knowledge of the following manufacturing processes are a plus:
    1. Sheet metal fabrication and/or stamping, Injection Molding, Painting and plating of metal and plastic components
  • Must possess proficient computing skills in Microsoft Office Suite, ERP Systems and SolidWorks
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to handle diverse situations and manage multiple projects
  • Comfortable presenting findings and recommendations both one-on-one and in meetings
  • Mechanically inclined, technically savvy, and possess the ability to multi-task in a demanding timeline driven position
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Safety Programs
  • Ability to contribute to growth through strong team interactions, building relationships with key decision-makers and working collaboratively with employees, clients, and prospects.
  • Possesses critical thinking skills to successfully effect change and drive results.
  • Ability to understand gap analysis and develop key process improvement initiatives and methods. Ability to read and interpret work instructions, manufacturing documents, and engineering drawings
  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50lbs. and occasionally up to 100lbs.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to focus
