The Opportunity

This position, Sr. Medical Affairs Manager, works out of our Carlsbad, CA location in the Cardiometabolic and Informatics (CMI) Team part of the ARDx Business Unit.

What You’ll Work On

We are looking for a real leader, who will be able to build peer-to-peer relationships with KOLs and Health Authorities stakeholders as well as to manage real-world data (RWD) generation studies and have a strategic vision of the future for diagnostics and tests.

As a Sr. Medical Affairs Manager, you will provide daily business operations support to Medical Affairs activities to support Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (RMDx)/Cardiometabolic and Informatics (CMI) products. Some of the main objectives (but not limited to) of the role are as follows:

  • Develop and execute strategic activities for medical affairs.

  • Collaborate with key experts to enhance the clinical utility of Point Of Care testing (POCT) through research, real-world data generation, advisory boards, and healthcare provider education.

  • Publish key studies to strengthen Abbott's scientific presence.

  • Provide medical and scientific information to support medical opinions and health hazard assessments for on-market product issues.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of key marketing strategies.

  • Respond promptly to healthcare providers' requests for scientific and medical information.

  • Oversee on-market product performance, including monitoring product safety (e.g., complaints, MDRs), reporting, evaluation, health hazard evaluations, and medical risk management.

  • Review and evaluate product performance data and trends.

  • Engage with professional associations, expert committees, payers, and patient advocacy groups to influence practice and promote guidelines supporting Rapid Diagnostics Cardiometabolic testing.

  • Represent medical affairs at conferences, expert group meetings, sales meetings, and interactions with physicians and hospitals.

  • Support daily business operations for medical affairs activities related to product development.

  • Assist with medical affairs activities for on-market product issues.

  • Provide direction and oversight for the division's medical oversight and product performance functions, including safety monitoring and health hazard evaluations in clinical study design.

  • Assist Medical Directors in preparing medical platform documents and opinions to support product development.

  • Offer expert opinions on laboratory operations, regulations, workflow, and needs.

  • Provide references and information to support medical opinions and health hazard assessments for on-market product issues.

  • Contribute to design control activities.

  • Work under the supervision of the Medical Director to identify and address significant issues.

  • Under the oversight of the Director and DVP, provide medical oversight for on-market product performance functions, including safety monitoring and health hazard evaluations in clinical study design.

  • Lead the development of consistent and accurate medical risk assessments throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Serve as a key resource in MDR reporting, clinical research, and medical risk management.

  • Interact with internal compliance organizations, FDA, and international regulatory bodies as needed to address product performance inquiries and clinical study matters, enhancing business growth opportunities for Abbott.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with some advanced degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.

    • Advanced degree may offset required years of experience.

    • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.

  • Travel up to 25% within the USA.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Doctorate Degree or Advanced degree, MD preferred.

  • Knowledge of Assays.

  • Experience working in Molecular or Infectious Diseases in general.

The base pay for this position is

$146,700.00 – $293,300.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
