Our Tompkinsville Scragg Mill is a key player in hardwood processing, and we’re searching for a Senior Maintenance Technician to lead the charge in keeping production moving and downtime minimal.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Maintenance Technician with significant experience in the hardwood industry, specifically within sawmill or Scragg mill environments. This role is critical to the heart of our operations—ensuring that machinery runs efficiently, breakdowns are swiftly addressed, and preventative maintenance is executed with precision.
You won’t just be "fixing machines"—you’ll be the backbone of uptime, productivity, and operational success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform advanced mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical maintenance on Scragg mill equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures quickly to minimize downtime.
- Develop, implement, and enforce a robust preventative maintenance program.
- Collaborate with production leadership to prioritize maintenance needs in alignment with operational goals.
- Mentor and guide junior maintenance staff, setting standards for workmanship, safety, and urgency.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts inventory, and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and company policies.
- Proactively identify areas for mechanical improvement and operational efficiency.
- Be available for emergency repairs and after-hours support when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in the hardwood industry, preferably within Scragg mills or sawmill operations.
- Strong knowledge of industrial machinery, hydraulic systems, conveyors, saws, gearboxes, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Proven track record of reducing downtime through effective maintenance practices.
- Experience leading or mentoring maintenance teams is highly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a sense of urgency and ownership.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and industrial safety best practices.
- Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
- Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as production demands.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications are a plus.
