Marmon is a $12 billion industrial conglomerate with over 200 industrial facilities in North America. Over the past 3 years, our Innovation and Automation group has successfully led or assisted with a number of factory and robotic automation projects across Marmon, including the deployment of many new automation systems and pieces of factory equipment, at many Marmon facilities. As we continue to scale our team, process, and reach to execute or assist with dozens of additional projects per year, we’re now looking for an Engineer with extensive process, operations, and LEAN experience to join our growing factory automation team.

We’re a group of Engineers identifying blockers, building tools, and executing on projects in the factory automation and process improvement space. Everyone on the team is empowered and expected to make changes to improve the way we do things. You’ll get exposure across all of our business segments to industry-leading executives, engineers, and factories.
This role will involve approximately 30-60% travel. Join us at our mHUB facility in Chicago or TXRX Labs facility in Houston, or “home-room” at one of our many business units local to you. Our work schedule is flexible, but an in-office schedule of 3 days/week is expected when not traveling. Periodic in-person visits to the Chicago office to mentor junior engineers will be also expected for candidates based outside the Chicago area. If this sounds exciting, Marmon is the place for you!
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Automation Projects:
- Lead the planning, design, and implementation of automation projects to enhance production efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, IT, and R&D, to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions
- Evaluate and select automation technologies; facilitate purchasing off-the-shelf options or guide vendors in their design and build of equipment
- Be hands-on with equipment for the purpose of running tests to understand technology capabilities and to also reduce project risk
- Process Optimization:
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvements; facilitate the implementation of these process improvements, with or without new hardware.
- Model current state and multiple options for future state processes using value stream mapping
- Conduct time and motion studies, data analyses, and process simulations to support various initiatives
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives when appropriate to directly generate savings and prepare the business for capital investments
- General:
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for proposed automation projects, including ROI calculations, to support investment decisions in alignment with Marmon’s 5-year payback guidelines
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and other team members on best practices
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in automation; attend trade shows and industry events and share knowledge with the team as appropriate

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:
- Preferred degree areas: mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, automation engineering, or project/operations management
- 8-15 years of experience in Operations, Process engineering, LEAN, Automation, or similar field
- Comfort in ambiguous situations where requirements may be unclear
- Ability to create your own plan to accomplish key business goals
- Comfort working in factory environments
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Knowledge of LEAN principles
- Ability to travel 30-60% of the time (domestic)
- Strong organizational skills
- MUST be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
