Summary of Position:

The Senior Engineering Manager, Avionics & IT Test Systems is responsible for leading and scaling a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting advanced satellite test rack integration systems. This role provides technical leadership, execution rigor, and operational accountability across electrical, IT infrastructure, and test engineering domains. The leader drives on-time, high-quality delivery of complex lab and rack-based systems while building scalable processes to support rapid growth.

Essential Functions:

Technical & Operational Leadership

  • Own engineering execution across electrical, IT, and avionics test domains
  • Drive end-to-end test rack and lab system delivery
  • Implement process rigor without slowing velocity
  • Ensure scope control and technical clarity during build cycles
  • Standardize engineering workflows and documentation practices

Program Execution

  • Deliver programs on time under aggressive schedules
  • Identify execution risk early and mitigate proactively
  • Drive margin improvement through program efficiency and automation

Customer Engagement

  • Lead customer-facing technical discussions
  • Present and defend designs in formal design reviews
  • Act as senior technical authority within the Business Unit

Work Environment:

This position is based in a professional office setting and regularly utilizes workplace technology, including computers, smartphones, multifunction printers, cloud-based filing systems, and collaboration tools.

Physical Demands:

This role requires physical capabilities that support the successful execution of key responsibilities. The employee regularly engages in verbal and written communication with colleagues and clients to address project-related inquiries and must be able to convey accurate information clearly and efficiently. The position involves remaining seated at a workstation for approximately 75% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access equipment, supplies, and shared resources. Daily tasks include consistent use of computers and standard office technology such as keyboards, printers, and multifunction devices. The role also involves transporting equipment boxes weighing up to 25 pounds within the building and to other offsite locations as needed for project support.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

8+ years of engineering experience

3+ years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams

Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering complex test rack, lab systems, or aerospace integration programs
  • Strong background in IT infrastructure (servers, networking, virtualization, cybersecurity)
  • Experience integrating electrical systems into rack-based architectures
  • Proven track record delivering under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ownership of hiring and team development
  • Experience operating in high-growth or startup-velocity environments
  • Onsite presence in Redmond, WA required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting satellite or space-related test environments
  • Systems engineering exposure
  • Experience improving engineering margin performance
  • Prior ownership of engineering budget
  • Background in export-controlled environments
