Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for working in a group environment with personnel from various disciplines (engineering and non-engineering) under limited direction of a supervisor to perform the lead manufacturing engineering duties for airbag inflator development, propellant process development and propellant production. This role supports both a production facility and prototype lab facility. Supports Maintenance in machine repair and problem resolution as required. May train, supervise or give direction to lower-level engineers and technicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Propellant Processing
1. Develop propellant processes involving binders, fuels, oxidizers and energetic powders. Processes include powder grinding, mixing, drying, granulating, milling, screening and pressing.
Prototype Laboratory
1. Provide manufacturing support to prototype laboratory team for existing prototype build processes.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical engineering, plus a minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of process/manufacturing engineering experience. Must be able to work under limited supervision. Must have a solid mechanical aptitude and ability to lead projects.
Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work will take place in a combination office/shop environment. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes requiring the use of personnel protective equipment. Employee may be required to be on-call, work weekends, holidays and travel (including international travel). This position primarily supports a laboratory site in Knoxville, TN and a production facility in Hartsville, TN.
