Senior Electrical Engineer, PE
Lead Complex Projects. Shape the Future of Mission-Critical Design.
Wide Effect is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer, PE to join a highly respected electrical construction and engineering organization serving some of the most complex and high-profile facilities across Chicagoland and the Midwest.
This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who wants to do more than produce designs. You’ll serve as a technical leader, project partner, mentor, and trusted advisor, guiding electrical design from concept through construction while helping develop the next generation of engineering talent.
With projects spanning mission-critical facilities, data centers, healthcare, commercial, institutional, and other landmark structures, you’ll have the opportunity to work on challenging projects where your expertise truly matters.
What You’ll Lead
As Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll take ownership of complex electrical design efforts and help ensure projects are technically sound, code-compliant, constructible, and delivered on time and within budget.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading electrical system design through all phases of a project, from concept and design development through construction support and commissioning.
- Designing and reviewing low- and medium-voltage power distribution, generators, UPS systems, lighting and controls, fire alarm/life safety, grounding, and bonding systems.
- Performing and overseeing electrical studies and analyses, including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, load calculations, cable ampacity, and fault current analysis.
- Developing and reviewing one-line diagrams, specifications, equipment schedules, floor plans, and BIM/Revit deliverables.
- Leading and mentoring a team of 3–5 electrical engineers, providing technical direction, coaching, and professional development.
- Coordinating closely with project managers, architects, designers, contractors, clients, and other disciplines.
- Leading design meetings and communicating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Supporting proposals, scope development, preconstruction activities, and project pursuits.
- Providing construction-phase expertise through site surveys, RFI responses, submittal reviews, commissioning, testing, and startup.
- Helping establish and improve engineering standards, tools, templates, and best practices across the organization.
The Opportunity
This role offers the chance to work from the Oak Brook office while supporting projects throughout Chicagoland, with approximately 5–10% local travel to project and construction sites.
You’ll be joining an organization with a remarkable legacy and a portfolio that includes everything from high-rises and healthcare facilities to factories, financial centers, data centers, hotels, educational facilities, and recreational spaces.
What You Bring
We’re looking for a proven electrical engineering leader who brings both technical depth and the ability to develop people.
You’ll ideally have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field focused on building electrical systems.
- 7–10+ years of electrical engineering design experience within commercial, institutional, or mission-critical facilities.
- Data center experience strongly preferred.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
- Experience leading technical teams and coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and SKM, ETAP, or similar electrical modeling software.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, Chicago Electrical Code, NFPA, IBC, IECC, and related standards.
- Excellent communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence decisions across project teams.
- Willingness to travel locally to project and construction sites as needed.
