Job Title: Sr. Director, Maintenance & Engineering

Classification: Exempt full-time

Reports to: Sr. VP of Supply Chain & Operations

Position Backup: Sr. VP of Supply Chain & Operations



A. PURPOSE 


The Sr. Director, Maintenance & Engineering is accountable for all maintenance, facilities, and capital engineering functions across the company's multi-site food manufacturing operations. This role owns the long-term asset reliability strategy, leads a cross-functional maintenance organization, and delivers measurable improvements in equipment uptime, cost efficiency, and food safety compliance. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with proven people leadership—capable of building systems that scale, developing high-performing teams, and sustaining operational excellence in a fast-paced CPG environment.

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and execute a strategic vision for maintenance management to drive operational excellence.
    • Spearhead transformative projects aimed at enhancing quality, safety, and productivity across multiple locations.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, ensuring successful implementation within budget and on schedule.
    • Manage budget allocations, ensuring adherence to financial plans while optimizing expenses.
  • Maintenance Management:
    • Implement computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to streamline maintenance operations.
    • Strategically determine equipment criticality and maintain adequate spare parts inventory.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to the maintenance team.
    • Oversee recruitment and hiring efforts to attract and acquire qualified maintenance professionals.
  • Technical Troubleshooting:
    • Serve as the technical expert for troubleshooting production machinery, manufacturing processes, and facility systems.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations, including SQF, FDA, and OSHA requirements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

C. Skills/Work Experience:

The required competencies to perform this job at an acceptable or above level of performance are as follows:

  • Skilled in control systems, industrial electronics design, and implementation.
  • Skills in equipment calibration.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and DeviceNet.
  • Expertise in hydraulics and pneumatics, including tunnel ovens and rack ovens.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on cost management.


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in food or CPG manufacturing, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior maintenance leadership role overseeing multiple facilities.
  • Demonstrated success leading maintenance transformations, including CMMS implementation, TPM deployment, and CAPEX execution, in regulated food or CPG manufacturing environments.
  • Strong project management skills with a focus on CAPEX projects.
  • Proven ability to build, develop, and retain high-performing, cross-functional maintenance teams across multiple plant locations.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance strategies, including TPM, Lean, and preventive maintenance.
  • Proficient in implementing and optimizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues and provide timely solutions.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and standards, including SQF, FDA, OSHA, and other applicable requirements.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred but not required).
  • CMMS experience required (SAP, Maximo, or similar).
  • HACCP & GFSI Certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour Certification preferred.


D. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical, or electronics engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Proficient in CMMS, PMP, preventive maintenance (PM), TPM, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience with horizontal and vertical high-speed packaging machines and conveyor systems.
