Primary Objective:
The Senior Automation Technician provides high level automation integration, advanced troubleshooting and process optimization skills to various plant wide manufacturing and maintenance operations. The technician in this position possessed advanced electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical skills allowing for complete automation project implementation through PLC programming and integration, VFD and Motion Control integration, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Mechanical installations.
Major Function and Scope:
- Performs hands-on wiring, assembly, programming and documentation of projects and maintenance repairs.
- Manages manufacturing and systems process improvement projects. From concept to development through installation, programming, implementation, commissioning and final documentation. Work with a variety of skilled tradesmen and contractors assuring projects are completed on time, on budget with the highest degree of quality and workmanship.
- Provides diagnosis and repair minimizing downtime, increasing utilization and efficiency. Diagnose repair or replace damaged or broken wires/cables, printed circuit boards, modules, or sensors associated with malfunctioning electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors and motor controllers, lighting circuits and fixtures, temperature controllers, AC and DC drive motor controllers.
- Diagnose repair or replace damaged pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical components associated with malfunctioning processes such as pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, bearings, chains and sprockets.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive training curriculum specific to Mohawk automation systems.
- Develop training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on exercises.
- Track and manage compliance in regards to training and development of automation
- Will be responsible for the leadership to a determined number of Maintenance associates.
- Attend or teach any job-related training deemed necessary by supervision
- Follow all established standard operating procedures
- Perform general housekeeping duties as necessary
- Perform other tasks assigned by management
Education and Experience:
- Minimum AS Degree in Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other relevant course of study or 10+ years Industrial Maintenance experience with Automation background required.
- Must have a valid Electrical License.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Should have experience in the use of multi-meters, oscilloscopes, PCs, and other equipment as necessary to troubleshoot and repair industrial automation.
- Must have a minimum of 4 years of proven leadership experience in a Maintenance setting.
- Industrial automation experience required.
- Must have a minimum of 4 years of apprenticeship under an experienced M E.
- Must have 4 years of proven PLC experience.
Core Competencies:
- Requires the ability to read and write schematics and drawings to specify new or replacement components for equipment.
- Should possess the ability to draw and use blueprints to wire, install, build, and troubleshoot electronic and electrical equipment and controls.
- Requires proficiency with a variety of computer programs including AutoCad, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and others. A thorough understanding of PC networking and communication configuration required.
- Must be able to pass the NEC (National Electrical Code) Test.
- Requires the ability to read and write schematics and drawings to specify new or replacement components for equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and be able to climb and work up to 100 feet.
- The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, and use hands to feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Eye protection required.
- Respirator use required in some areas.
- Hearing protection required.
