The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram seeks a sports reporter to join our team in a vibrant sports landscape.
The Chippewa Valley has a busy sports calendar year-round. If you’re a baseball fan, Eau Claire has the Express, the Bears and the Cavaliers to watch at historic Carson Park. Hockey more your speed? Check out the Chippewa Steel. Two semi-pro soccer teams call the area home, and this past summer saw the launch of the Eau Claire Axemen, an Arena League team.
Prep and collegiate sports are well represented as well. Eau Claire has two public high schools, two private high schools, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Another DIII university, UW-Stout, is one county over. And that’s not even getting into the dozen or so smaller communities that each take their high school sports seriously.
We’re looking for someone who loves sports and loves to tell the community what’s happening with their local athletes. We want someone who goes beyond game coverage to be a storyteller.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience, though we are happy to train the right person if they’re just getting started.
This is a full-time position. Benefits include:
401K, health, dental and vision insurance, and paid time off that starts accruing from day one. Company paid Life, Short and Long Term insurance. 6 company paid holidays, volunteer and float holidays are part of the position as well.
