POSITION SUMMARY:
Students selected for the Sourcing & Supplier Quality Engineering Co-Op will work closely with the Sourcing, Supplier Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support supplier development, quality improvement initiatives, and new product development projects. This role provides hands-on experience evaluating supplier performance, participating in product and process improvement activities, and supporting the successful launch of new products and components across White River Marine Group.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Projects may include some or all of the following tasks:
- Assists with supplier evaluations, audits, and supplier performance assessments.
- Participates in investigations of supplier quality issues and supports corrective and preventive action activities.
- Collects, analyzes, and reports supplier quality and performance metrics.
- Supports qualification and validation of new suppliers, materials, and components.
- Works with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sourcing teams to resolve quality concerns and improve manufacturability.
- Assists with root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects related to supplier quality, cost, delivery, and performance.
- Reviews drawings, specifications, test reports, and quality documentation to ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
- Supports incoming material inspections and product evaluations as required.
- Participates in supplier meetings, design reviews, and cross-functional project teams.
- Assists with development and maintenance of supplier scorecards and quality records.
- Travels to manufacturing facilities and supplier locations to gain an understanding of production processes and supplier capabilities.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: Working toward a four-year degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Preferred Degree: Enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.
- Years of experience: Junior or Senior level student preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data using Microsoft Excel and other business tools.
- Knowledge of quality systems, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement principles.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and basic GD&T concepts preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, or root cause analysis methodologies is a plus.
- Independent thinker with a strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is located within a comfortable office environment at White River Marine Group Headquarters in Springfield, MO. Projects may be co-located in a manufacturing plant and may involve frequent liaison trips to plants or local lakes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly sits and works on a computer.
Occasionally stands, walks, and lifts up to 50 lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
