Job Description

The Solar Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, basic electrical knowledge, and the ability to work safely in outdoor construction environments while ensuring all work meets company quality standards, customer expectations, and applicable electrical codes.

Essential Responsibilities

• Install photovoltaic (PV) modules, racking systems, and associated equipment.
• Assemble and secure mounting hardware on rooftops or ground-mounted solar arrays.
• Pull, route, terminate, and label DC and AC wiring.
• Install inverters, combiner boxes, disconnects, conduit, and monitoring equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and construction drawings.
• Perform system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues affecting system performance.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections on existing solar installations.
• Ensure all work complies with NEC, OSHA, local building codes, and manufacturer specifications.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and material handling equipment safely.
• Maintain accurate service reports, installation documentation, and inspection records.
• Collaborate with electricians, project managers, and other construction trades to complete projects on schedule.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1-3 years of solar installation, electrical, construction, or related field experience preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and construction drawings.
• Basic understanding of photovoltaic (PV) systems and electrical theory.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly.
• Comfortable working at heights, on rooftops, ladders, scaffolding, or lifts.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications

• NABCEP certification or willingness to obtain.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with commercial or utility-scale solar installations.
• Forklift, telehandler, aerial lift, or skid steer certification.
• Electrical apprentice or journeyman experience.
• CPR/First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
• Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including fall protection equipment.

• Overtime and weekend work may be required based on project schedules
