Position Summary
The Snow Team Leader and Supervisor directs people and event execution at the crew, site, or route level. Placement may include Snow Crew Leader, Site Supervisor, Assistant Route Manager, or Route Manager responsibilities based on experience, demonstrated capability, span of control, and operational need.
Our snow and ice team serves as a first responder to the first responders by helping keep healthcare facilities, emergency access, businesses, and the community open during winter events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in pre-event planning and confirms that assigned people, equipment, materials, maps, routes, and communication tools are ready.
- Conducts pre-shift huddles and communicates the event plan, safety expectations, service priorities, and escalation procedures.
- Directs assigned technicians, operators, subcontractors, sites, or routes within the authority of the assigned leadership level.
- Monitors progress, service timing, site conditions, staffing, equipment status, and documentation throughout the event.
- Verifies completed work, identifies service gaps, and coordinates corrections before releasing resources whenever practical.
- Reallocates approved resources and escalates shortages, delays, client concerns, incidents, property damage, or service risks promptly.
- Reviews and approves labor time, material records, service records, photos, and other required event documentation.
- Maintains professional communication with operations leadership, clients within approved boundaries, employees, and subcontractors.
- Coaches team members, reinforces accountability, recognizes strong performance, and supports fatigue-management expectations.
- Responds to incidents and near misses according to company reporting and emergency procedures.
- Participates in after-action reviews and converts lessons learned into specific operational improvements.
- Develops backup leaders and supports training, qualification, and succession within the snow organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned and follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position supervises assigned employees and may coordinate subcontractor resources during snow and ice events. The number of people, sites, and routes supervised depends on placement as Snow Crew Leader, Site Supervisor, Assistant Route Manager, or Route Manager. Employment decisions remain subject to company approval and HR policy.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed outdoors during winter months and may occur during nights, weekends, holidays, and extended events.
- Exposure to snow, ice, wind, cold, low visibility, traffic, slippery surfaces, and rapidly changing weather conditions.
- Noise levels may be moderate to high. Required personal protective equipment, including hearing protection when applicable, must be used.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and communicate effectively with company personnel, customers, consultants, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders. The requirements below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.
Education Certification and License
- High school diploma or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required when driving is part of the assignment.
- Successful completion of company leadership, documentation, incident-response, and assignment-specific snow training is required. (Level 3)
Experience
- Substantial commercial snow and ice experience appropriate to the assigned leadership level is required.
- Prior experience leading a field crew, major site, multi-site route, or comparable time-sensitive operation is preferred.
- Experience coordinating equipment, deicing materials, subcontractors, service verification, and client communication is helpful.
Specific Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must maintain dependable availability before, during, and after winter events.
- Must communicate calmly, clearly, and accountably during changing conditions.
- Must use company timekeeping, routing, communication, and documentation systems accurately.
- Must exercise sound judgment, follow escalation requirements, and remain within assigned authority.
- Must be able to coach performance, resolve routine field issues, and escalate significant concerns promptly.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outside and travel between sites during winter events.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, and inspect work areas for extended periods.
- Ability to enter and exit vehicles and equipment repeatedly.
- Ability to walk on uneven or slippery surfaces while observing site conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and assist with field work when required.
- Visual, hearing, communication, and motor abilities sufficient to monitor operations and respond to hazards.
Job Specifications
- Temporary or seasonal snow assignment, generally November through April, unless combined with another company position.
- On-call, weather-dependent schedule that includes pre-event planning, overnight work, weekends, holidays, and extended events.
- Overtime may be required as workload and weather dictate.
- Leadership placement, authority, and span of control may change based on event needs, demonstrated capability, and company direction.
