Job Description
The Site Engineer is responsible for ensuring functional system performance, accurate documentation, compliance with safety standards, and effective coordination among project stakeholders. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge of BAS and PLC based control systems along with project management skills. They will manage project schedules, mitigate risks, and provide on-site support for programming, field integration, and overall project documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Understands project requirements, sequence of operation, programming, and system types.
- Ensures proper system operability by assisting in onsite performance verification to confirm system functionality.
- Maintains project documentation by updating wiring diagrams, sequence changes, DDC and PLC programs, HMIs, and displays.
- Maintains commissioning documentation and collaborates with the programming team for accurate documentation to ensure complete project closeout.
- Develop and maintain project plans using Smartsheet, MS Project, Procore, CX Alloy (or similar platforms), including setting up progress dashboards, automated workflows, and performance reports to track milestones and deliverables.
- Facilitates communication among project stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.
- Generate analytical reports summarizing project metrics, financial data, and performance to support decision-making by stakeholders.
- Monitor project performance to identify risks, forecast potential delays or budget impacts, and implement timely corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Manage building automation and construction projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget objectives are met while coordinating subcontractors and internal teams.
- Assists with field level integrations by staying current with integrations platforms like ModBus, BACnet, LON, OPC, and related software. (i.e. Tridium, Fieldserver, ModScan, Wire Shark.
- Conducts site visits and work with specialized field teams to monitor progress and resolve any technical issues.
- Safety training in accordance with requirements.
- Proper adherence to PPE requirements and maintenance of if PPE is issued, and tasks require its use.
- Additional requests and requirements as determined by HBT/CT management relevant to the role.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Data Analytics or related field required.
- Experience managing construction or building automation/controls projects with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and subcontractor management.
- Strong familiarity with electrical and mechanical installation practices and commissioning processes in a building technologies environment.
- Proficiency with Smartsheet (or similar project management platforms), including building and managing complex project plans, reports, dashboards, and automated workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to use project data and analytics to manage risk, forecast outcomes, and drive corrective actions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and prioritize tasks across several active projects.
- OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe).
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% to job sites and customer locations, including support for high‑profile clients across multiple regions.
- A proactive, mentorship‑oriented mindset with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- The employee is responsible for performing all assigned duties in alignment with the metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) established for this position, and for routinely monitoring, documenting, and reporting performance against these measures to ensure ongoing compliance with organizational standards.
