Durango, CO · Full-time · Salaried (exempt) · Employee-owned
$55K–$80K salary + performance bonus + employee ownership
Pay: $55,000–$80,000 per year salary based on experience, plus a performance bonus.
Garrhs is a high-growth Durango heating and cooling contractor. Every dollar in and out runs through you. We're looking for a hands-on controller who keeps the books clean, the bills paid and payroll right, and gives leadership the dashboard to make good decisions.
And here, you're not just an employee — you're an owner. Garrhs is employee-owned, so when the company grows, your share grows with it.
We're not hiring for the role as it is today — we're hiring for where it's going. The right person will grow into a leadership position, building the team and systems that support our expansion across Colorado and surrounding states.
What you'll do
- Keep accurate books in QuickBooks Online and close each month on schedule with clean financial statements
- Reconcile balance sheet subledgers monthly
- Own sales and use tax compliance — prepare and file state, county and city returns accurately and on time
- Build and update scorecards so operational leaders can make informed decisions
- Run payables: enter, approve and pay vendor bills, match invoices to POs, and manage W-9s and 1099s
- Run collections: post payments and follow up on past-due accounts and service agreements — firmly but kindly
- Process payroll accurately and on time, including payroll taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, and 401(k) and ESOP records
- Support HR: benefits enrollment, employee questions, and Colorado and federal employment law compliance
- Help employees understand what being an owner means — ESOP statements, vesting and the why behind it
- Use software, automation and AI to cut manual work and connect our field service, accounting and payroll systems
- Maintain sound internal controls and support our CPA with tax prep, audits and year-end work
What you bring
- 5+ years of full-cycle accounting, including month-end close and financial reporting; public accounting experience is a plus
- Experience filing sales and use tax returns, ideally across multiple Colorado jurisdictions
- Hands-on payroll experience, including hourly field employees, certified payroll, and overtime
- Tech-forward — you've used software, automation or AI to streamline a process and can show the results
- Strong QuickBooks Online and spreadsheet skills
- Working HR knowledge — onboarding, benefits and recordkeeping
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven and discreet with confidential pay and personnel information
- A people-first attitude: friendly with a tech in muddy boots and firm with a past-due customer
- Bonus points: trades experience (HVAC, plumbing, electrical), field service software, certified payroll, job costing, or ESOP/401(k) administration
Schedule
Monday–Friday, daytime hours, with flexibility around payroll and month-end close.
Benefits
- PTO and paid vacation days
- Paid training and a real path to leadership as we expand across Colorado and surrounding states
- Health insurance, 401k match, and employee ownership for all full time employees
