JOB SUMMARY
The Shop Lead (2nd Shift) position will perform and oversee a variety of mechanical operations / tasks on turbomachinery components and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Provide oversight and leadership to all craft workers during 2nd shift including Balance, Machining, Mechanic, and Welding
- Provide concise hand-over notes to 1st shift highlighting status, issues, and opportunities.
- Gives guidance and has ability to disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble RMS and non-OEM turbomachinery including compressors (centrifugal, liquid ring, etc.), gearboxes, pumps, turbines, etc.
- Ensures that shipments and deliveries are made without issue, and at times will be mainly responsible to offload oversize goods using overhead crane or large forklift. Responsible for maintenance of all shipping paperwork during shift.
- Able to inspect and record measurements of component parts to customer, OEM and industry standard specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments, tools and gages.
- Basic understanding of dynamic balancing equipment and how to build & balance various rotating elements.
- Basic understanding of various machine tool setups and operation
- Coordinates material movements between work areas and with shipping / receiving.
- Notifies Quality and Production Leadership in the event of non-conformity and drives for speedy resolution.
- Analyzes and understands present and future workload / capacity and can re-prioritize / redirect work as needed.
- Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
- Responsible for understanding and driving adherence to safety policy, procedures, and instructions.
- Leads group in maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution.
- Post High School degree in a mechanical related field is a plus.
Knowledge and/or Skill Requirements:
- Safety-first mindset with self and coworkers.
- Set up and performing of hydro or gas leak tests.
- Familiarity with OEM products (AC Compressor / Conmec / RMS) with ability to quickly understand non-OEM rotating equipment.
- Communicate with supervision, crafts, and customers during the inspection and repair process.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Expert in use of precision measuring equipment (mic, caliper, etc.).
- Ability to lead in a team environment.
- Ability to coach / mentor within the extended team
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required.
- Ability to work in an environment of constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities.
- Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required.
- Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene torches.
- Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer and math skills.
Previous Experience:
- 15 years or more in relevant turbo-machinery industry.
OTHER INFORMATION
- The position will be based full time in our Houston, TX facility (77034).
- Days, Evening and/or weekends depending on company needs.
- Able to understand, read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Legal to work in the United States
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, physical and background check.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift.
- Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
- Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage.
- Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts in a machine-shop environment.
